AuSable Ambulance seeks defibrillators

---- — AUSABLE FORKS — The AuSable Forks Ambulance Service recently kicked off major fundraising for two new 2011 X Series defibrillators.

The devices, one for each ambulance, are priced at $36,000 each.

The defibrillators are desperately needed for use by ambulance volunteers and paid personnel so they can have a greater chance of saving lives in a time of need, Ambulance Chief Bill Minogue said in a press release.

“Currently, we are doing a fundraising letter campaign to all the residents in both towns that we service, and the response has been overwhelming.”

The AuSable Forks Ambulance Corp. was established in 1974. In addition to providing protection for the residents of the towns of Jay and Black Brook, it gets involved with many other community events, including the annual Iron Man Race in Lake Placid, the AuSable Forks Fastpitch Softball Tournament, Jay/Black Brook Youth Commission sporting functions, AuSable Valley Central School sporting functions, parades and fireworks shows.

“We have been able to provide extended coverage (by) hiring full-time personnel without drastically increasing our annual budget,” Minogue said.

“We also provide a wide variety of services, which include the training of CPR/AED (cardiopulmonary resuscitation/automatic external defibrillator) for area organizations and the employees of the Town of Jay/Black Brook Summer Playground Program.

“We are a very community-minded organization, and our volunteers and paid staff go above and beyond the call of duty,” he added.

Because budgets are tight, Minogue said, officials decided to reach out to a wider audience in their fundraising appeal.

“We provide a service that not only protects our residents but our visitors for the numerous special events in the North Country,” he said.

“Therefore, we are hoping that through this media message, we may receive some financial support from outside our full-time residents.”
