Grocery gift

TO THE EDITOR: Trinity Community Meal, located at Trinity Episcopal Church in Plattsburgh, wants to let the North Country know that Yando’s “$5 Best Wishes” food donation campaign has come to an end.

We picked up an additional 75 bags of food items June 27, bringing the grand total to 506 separate paper bags of groceries over the last month, each containing six different long shelf-life food items.

With a value of $8 per bag (Yando’s collected $5 from each customer who donated to this worthy cause and then added another $3 worth of product to bring the total value to $8 per bag), we have received a gift valued at more than $4,000 from this one North Country business and their most generous patrons. God truly works in wonderful ways.

We have already distributed 145 of these bags to seniors, families and many others who were in need in the past several weeks. We will be distributing about 70 more bags of groceries July 2 at our next community meal here at Trinity. A special thank you to Mr. Gary Yando, owner of Yando’s Supermarkets and his entire staff for the time, labor and love that went into this outstanding endeavor.

Please, remember Matthew 25:35: “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.”
