NCCCA plans clay classes for kids

PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts will hold clay classes for youths age 5 to 14 in the areas of hand building and wheel work.

Students will learn basic clay techniques and create pieces they can take home at the end of the session.

The Kids’ Clay: Hand Building class, instructed by Jen Shutts, allows children ages 5 to 9 to create both functional pottery and creative sculptures. The classes take place 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays from April 7 through May 5. The cost is $95 (or $85 for Arts Center members), plus a $10 materials fee.

Kim Mazur will instruct the Kids’ Wheel class, for kids ages 10 to 14. Participants learn how to throw on a potter’s wheel and create their own mugs, bowls, plates and shallow dishes to keep. Classes are from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays from April 13 through May 4. The cost is $120 ($115 for Arts Center members), plus a $25 materials fee.
