Hogansburg man arrested after alleged stabbing

AKWESASNE — A Hogansburg man was charged with assault after he allegedly stabbed a 22-year-old multiple times.

At about 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27, St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police were dispatched to 237 Raquette Point Road in Akwesasne, where they found Demetri A. LaFrance, who had been stabbed multiple times in his torso area, according to a news release from the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to Massena Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and then released, according to the release.

On Oct. 30, Tyson L. Gonyou, 26, was charged with second-degree assault with intent to cause physical injury with a weapon, a felony, the tribe said.

Gonyou was arraigned in Bombay Town Court and was sent to Franklin County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.

He posted bail the same night he was arrested, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.

Gonyou was an uninvited guest at a private residential party, the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe said in an email.

The men knew each other and live near one another, the tribe said.

“The district attorney felt the injuries did not rise to the level of serious physical injury and were not life threatening,” the email said.
