Whalen's 20 points leads Lions over Beavers

ELIZABETHTOWN — Lily Whalen, Shonna Brooks and Jasmin Barnes combined for 44 of their team’s points as Elizabethtown-Lewis (12-0, 9-0) remained unbeaten Wednesday night with a 48-26 Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference nonleague girls’ basketball win over Keene.

Whalen finished with a game-high 20 points, while Brooks added 14, including 10 from the foul line. Barnes scored 10 to go along with nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Kylee Cassavaugh chipped in with four assists and five steals for the Lions.

Elizabethtown-Lewis jumped out to a 13-3 lead in the first quarter and outscored Keene in every quarter.

Taylor Geiger led Keene with 12 points, and Tucker Geiger followed with eight.

Beekmantown 60, Chateaugay 49

BEEKMANTOWN — Keegan Ryan scored 31 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to help the Eagles beat the Bulldogs in a nonleague game.

“I thought we played pretty well defensively,” Beekmantown coach Ryan Converse said. “We played really unselfishly. It was a good team win. We got good contributions from everybody.”

Nikolas Koktowski added 11 points for Beemantown.

Noah Bowes led Chateaugay with 29 points, and Seth Young scored 16.

“Their leading scorer, Bowes, is a nice player,” Converse said. “He did a lot of nice things for them. He was pretty hard to guard.”
