Marle Curle paced the Hornets (5-3, 4-2) with 18 points and nine rebounds. Brin Keyser and Cieara Duquette added eight points apiece, with Keyser getting eight rebounds.

The Hornets held a 17-12 lead after one and a slim 31-29 advantage at the half.

“Both teams came out playing man-to-man and PHS was on fire,” said AuSable Valley coach Roger Long. “They jumped out to a 15-4 lead before we went on an 8-2 run to cut it to five after one.”

Plattsburgh, despite holding the lead for the entire first half, took just the two-point edge into the half.

“We made some defensive adjustments to start the second half,” said Long. “Curle is the best perimeter player in the league and she scored 14 of her points in the first half. We gave some defensive help against her in the second half to try and force other players to beat us.”

The Patriots held the Hornets to eight third-quarter points and took the lead at 37-36 late in the third when Strong hit a three-pointer. It was AuSable Valley’s first lead of the game.

“We had a four-point lead in the fourth quarter, but Keyser hit a couple of putbacks to tie the game,” said Long. “But Taylor Saltus hit a two-pointer and Rondeau a three to put the Patriots back in front.

“We hit four-of-six from the foul line to seal it at the end.”
