PLATTSBURGH — The local high school basketball season came to a close Wednesday night at Seton Catholic Central School and Plattsburgh High’s Marle Curle finished off a dominating senior year with a dominating performance in the annual Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Exceptional Senior Games.

Curle poured in 24 points to lead the White Team to an 87-50 victory over the Dark Team in the girls’ contest. Curle also won the 3-point shooting contest for the girls and was edged out by Northeastern Clinton’s Tom Bedard for the overall 3-point championship.

The White Team, coached by Northern Adirondack’s Jessica Barnhart and Northeastern Clinton’s Frank Dumas, jumped out to a 24-17 lead in the first quarter and a 46-24 advantage at the half.

Olivia Carlsson, Curle’s teammate at Plattsburgh, added 20 points for the White Team, while Northeastern Clinton’s Skyler Hebert and Jordan Dominic chipped in with 10 points apiece. Plattsburgh’s Brin Keyser had eight.

The Dark Team, coached by AuSable Valley’s Roger Long, was led by the Patriots’ Haley Taylor with nine points. Saranac’s Victoria Phaneuf added seven, while Saranac’s Kristen Napper and Lake Placid’s Haley Brandes each added six.

For Long, Taylor and Sierra Snow, it was an evening of relaxation following the Patriots’ hard-earned run to the NYSPHSAA Class C final four, which ended in a 56-41 loss to Bishop Kearney in last weekend’s semifinals.

“It was more relaxing (Wednesday),” Snow said. “Our AuSable Valley team went through a lot, and I was impressed with the season we had.

“I just wanted to have some fun (Wednesday). I’m known more as a defensive player, and my goal in this game was to make a 3-pointer. I don’t usually shoot them.”

Snow, who scored five points, did get her wish when she connected on a triple.

Fun was definitely the order of the night for the boys, who launched 3-pointers from every angle and distance.

Plattsburgh’s Damon LaBorde led a balanced scoring attack for the Dark Team with 16 points. He was followed by Saranac Lake’s Kevin Morgan with 14, Plattsburgh’s T.J. LaPoint and Saranac Lake’s Kellen Munn with 12 each, and Peru’s Bret Boyer with 10 as five Dark Team players hit in double figures. The squad was coached by Plattsburgh’s Chris Hartmann and Seton Catholic’s Larry Converse.

Saranac’s Michael Conway tossed in 18 points and Saranac Lake’s Teddy Yanchitis added 16 for the White Team, which was coached by Beekmantown’s Ryan Converse and AuSable Valley’s Jamie Douglass.

Moriah’s Mike Mero added 11 points for the White Team, while Peru’s Hunter Bruno finished with nine, and Northeastern Clinton’s Bedard, who won the 3-point shooting contest, and Northern Adirondack’s Colby Sayah had eight each.

Saranac’s Bullis won the slam-dunk competition. The event was decided by crowd noise for each participant following the contest.

The CVAC wanted to thank George Dyer, Tom Lacey, Jim Caron and Andy Guay for donating their time to officiate the games.
