---- — PLATTSBURGH — Clinton Community College has been on the wrong end of some close games over the past few weeks.
The Cougars have dropped their last three games by one, three and one point.
Wednesday, though, it all came together for Clinton in a 71-62 victory over Hudson Valley.
Mykell Crecko led the way with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Crecko went 7-of-11 from the field and currently leads Region III in field goal percentage, shooting 61 percent from the field. He is also tops in rebounds in the region at 12.7 per game.
“We did a great job defensively,” Clinton coach Kevin Daugherty said. “We did a great job and only committed eight personal fouls for the game.
“Our ball movement in the half court was outstanding and we made the extra pass. We also were 8-for-16 from three.”
Jamie Davison connected on 5-of-10 from 3-point range for 15 points and four assists. Kyree Hull and Jordan Knight each finished with nine points, while Matt Spencer added seven points and eight rebounds for the Cougars (7-8, 10-9).
“We’ve lost by one, three and one the last three games,” Daugherty said. “This was a much needed win, but also a quality win against a team that was one game ahead of us in the standings.
“We had a lot of guys step up defensively, especially the two Jordans (Knight and Coolidge), Hull and Davison. It was a really good night.”
Jose Reyes and Giacomo Giglio each tallied 13 points to lead the way for the Vikings. Richard Williams added 11 points.
“It was a much needed win,” Daugherty said. “The guys have been playing really hard and we have been right there, but haven’t been able to get it done.
“They played extremely well (Wednesday).”
Clinton hosts a pair of games this weekend starting with Saturday’s contest against Fulton-Montgomery and wrapping up Sunday against Delhi. Both games slated for 3 p.m.
