NORTH ELBA — A teen was charged Tuesday with felony arson connected with an incident dating back to May 2012.
A 14-year-old girl allegedly set fire to a mobile home in Cascade Acres Mobile Home Park, located at 101 Cascade Road in Lake Placid, according to the Ray Brook-based State Police Troop B Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Police would not release the name of the girl because of her age, they said, and the sensitive nature of the case.
The girl allegedly set fire to the home with a liquid accelerant at about 4 a.m. May 26, 2012, police said. The incident was reported just before 6 a.m. that day.
No one was injured in the blaze, police said. An investigator said there was a lot of external damage to the home, but it remained still inhabitable.
Investigation revealed the girl as a suspect in the arson in the past few months, police said.
The teen turned herself in at the Ray Brook barracks on Tuesday and was charged with second-degree arson, a felony, at about 7:16 p.m., police said.
The girl was released on an appearance ticket, and the case will be handled in Essex County Family Court, police said.
