SARANAC LAKE — State tourism officials are showing they love Winter Carnival.
This year, Empire State Development’s tourism office will set up an I Love New York lounge beside the Ice Palace.
Winter Carnival Chairman Eric Foster said the outdoor lounge will be situated in a tent, starting Friday.
Staff from the tourism department will be serving hot chocolate and shaved maple ice treats for palace visitors through midday Sunday. They have to take down the tent at that point to make room for the fireworks launch.
The Tourism Office will also be giving out souvenirs at the Gala Parade on Saturday.
The event draws some 20,000 visitors to Main Street during carnival. It closes off downtown streets to all but foot traffic from about 11 a.m. until the parade route clears.
Parade-oriented gifts were designed specially for the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival and I Love New York.
Foster said Carnival Committee members truly welcomed the state’s added support.
“They are assisting with the cost of the slide-show presentation at the end of Winter Carnival,” Foster told the Press-Republican.
The slide show will be presented at the Ice Palace at 7 p.m. Sunday.
This will mark the first time I Love New York has added its “red heart” focus to Saranac Lake’s signature winter festivities.
“With the assistance of the media, the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival is getting broader recognition throughout the state,” Foster said.
The final weekend’s Celtic Carnival fanfare coincides with the Empire State Winter Games events this weekend.
