Barbershop chorus offering singing workshop

PLATTSBURGH — The Cumberland Bay Barbershoppers will again be offering a free four-week a cappella singing workshop.

Workshops are from 7 to 9:15 p.m. Tuesdays, May 7, 14, 21 and 28, at the Northern Alliance Church, 7 Northern Road, Plattsburgh.

The workshop will be conducted by William Verity, graduate of the Crane School of Music and choral director for the Plattsburgh City School District. Experience is not necessary, and the group is open to men of all ages. To register, call Dave Hurd at 593-3686 or visit

A capella group offering gift of Mother’s Day song

PLATTSBURGH — The Cumberland Bay Barbershoppers are available to deliver their quartet to moms and sweethearts for Mother’s Day weekend in the greater Plattsburgh area.

For $50, the nonprofit a capella group — dressed in tuxedos — will sing two songs from the quartet. A Mother’s Day card and long-stem rose are included. The service is available from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 11; and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 12.

NCCCA hosting ceramic plate workshop for kids

PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts is offering a “Favorite Animal Ceramic Plate Workshop” for children ages 5 to 9 from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 11.

Children will use clay and glazes to create a functional plate designed around any animal they wish with the assistance of Rebecca Conklin, instructor. The plates will be ready for pick-up two weeks after the workshop.

“Through this workshop, children will be introduced to several basic elements of clay design and also be able to exercise their creativity,” Emily Owens, NCCCA education coordinator, said in a news release.

The workshop costs $25 ($20 for NCCCA members), plus a $5 materials fee.
