ROTA Gallery offering new workshops, classes

PLATTSBURGH — ROTA Gallery will host seven new workshops and classes starting in April, most of which are free.

Courses include Yoga, Realistic Freestyle Self Defense, Zumba, Qigong, Capoeira, Fire Spinning and Art Techniques Group. People interested in learning more are encouraged to stop by the gallery at 50 Margaret St., visit rotagallery.com, or check out the new April ROTA catalog that is available at many downtown establishments.

First up is the Art Techniques Group, which will meet from 2:30 to 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 2. The classes and workshops offered are led by various teachers and organizers within the community who want to share what they have learned with the rest of Plattsburgh.

‘Art Quest’ program explores life under sea

PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts at 23 Brinkerhoff St. is offering “Art Quest: Underwater Explorers” for children ages 5 to 12 over spring break.

Students will examine life under the sea through an artistic lens during the week-long workshop. They will create their own pieces based on aquatic themes in multiple mediums.

The class runs from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, April 1, through Friday, April 5. The cost is $85 for NCCCA members or $95 for non-members.

Pottery class starts Tuesday at BluSeed Studios

SARANAC LAKE — BluSeed Studios is offering pottery classes for beginners from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays from April 2 through May 7 at its 24 Cedar St. location.

The six-week Adult Beginner Pottery Class is for ages 15 and up and costs $200. The fee includes all materials and firing, as well as studio access.

Artist Carol Marie Vossler will guide the beginner potter through the basic maneuvers of creating a piece of pottery on the wheel. Hand building skills and glazing techniques will also be introduced. Through demonstrations and planned projects, the student will be able to accomplish goals and gain the necessary confidence needed to finish a pot on their own.
