AKWESASNE — An $852,000 ladder truck will be purchased for the Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department by the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort.
The announcement was made this week at the same time casino officials donated $42,000 to the department to buy new self-contained air packs for its members.
Fire Chief Derek Comins thanked the casino and members of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Council, which oversees the casino, for the donations in a news release, saying the firefighting equipment “will serve the entire community of Akwesasne as well as our surrounding communities with our mutual-aid commitments.”
The fire truck will be paid for in installments across 20 years and is expected to be delivered by the end of October.
Volunteers will undergo training for proper usage and care of the new air packs, as well as the ladder truck.
Pat Bassney, general manager at the casino, said the facility is “proud to partner with the Hogansburg-Akwesasne Fire Department, as the services they provide the community and casino are invaluable.
“There is a strong relationship with the Fire Department, and we appreciate their dedication to keeping Akwesasne safe for both guests and residents alike,” he said.
