Participation appreciated
TO THE EDITOR: Mountain Lake Services held its 2nd Annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 24, in Keeseville. The event included a children's area with games, crafts, snacks, a silent auction and a haunted house for those willing to experience the fun of Halloween.

The event was a fundraiser for the Mountain Lake Services Early Intervention Program. This program assists children with disabilities, from birth to age five, in receiving the necessary supports to assist them in reaching their full potential.

We are appreciative of the donations provided by area businesses and individuals who supported this event and our agency. They are: Bourgeois IGA, Walmart, Pepsi Co., Arnold's Grocery, Moore's Flatwork, Donna's Hair Salon & Tanning, Archer Body Works, Shirley Mock, Darcy and Maureen Pray, Northern Orchards, Country Kitchen. Thank you to the vendors who also participated in this event.

Excellent caregivers
TO THE EDITOR: On Friday, Oct. 23 (a day that will forever forward be burned into my memory due), my infant son was admitted to CVPH Medical Center for treatment. The Emergency Room staff were caring and attentive, particularly the nurse that attended to my son. Subsequently, we stayed in the Pediatric Ward for three nights. Round the clock, my son received excellent care from the nurses. The nursing staff was also kind and compassionate to me as I struggled to absorb the nightmare of having my baby in pain. They helped me with tips and tricks to not only ease his immediate discomfort, but also to use as he continues his recovery.

On the last evening we were there, the H1N1 pandemic swelled to a crescendo locally, and the ER was full. The Pediatric Ward started to double up rooms to accommodate and treat the incoming children who needed in-patient care. The nursing staff remained unflappable, caring and attentive despite the marked increase in patients on the floor.

I cannot speak highly enough of the men and women at CVPH. The hospital's staff is terrific, and that includes physicians, nurses and all of the folks who work in other capacities to support medical team efforts. While the hospital is not a large one, it is certainly not short on quality when it comes to patient care.

I want to extend a sincere and heartfelt thanks to everyone at CVPH who helped my son, Brennan, in his time of need. We are very lucky to have such excellent caregivers available to us in the North Country.
