Chazy concert rescheduled CHAZY — The Fall Concert at Chazy Central Rural School has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, in the school auditorium.
High numbers of student absences and the illness of a music teacher drove the decision to suspend the event last week. As well, said Superintendent Kevin Mulligan, it didn't seem prudent to seat hundreds in close proximity in the auditorium in the midst of the flu epidemic.
Performing in the Nov. 9 concert will be the elementary, junior-high and senior-high choruses as well as the Jazz Band, Elementary Band, Concert Band and Wind Ensemble.
"Music students in grades 4 through 12 will perform a wide variety of musical selections and styles," a press release said.
The public is invited to the free event.
1812 ornament available PLATTSBURGH — Artist John Purdy produced the original sketch for the new ornament available only in The History Shoppe of the Battle of Plattsburgh Association and online at www.battleofplattsburgh.org.
The custom, double-sided cast-pewter ornament shows a solemn sailor longing for home during the War of 1812, a press release said. The price is $13.75; limited quantities are available.
For more information, call 566-1814.
Online Auction bidding begins
BURLINGTON — The annual Vermont Youth Orchestra Association Online Auction opened for bidding Monday and continues through Nov. 20.
To visit the auction gallery or to place bids, go to www.vyo.org and click on the "Visit the Online Auction" link on the home page.
Pendragon promotes newest production SARANAC LAKE — Nov. 12 is preview night at Pendragon Theatre in Saranac Lake, when evening patrons may attend the show — "Moby Dick Rehearsed" — for half price.
As well, a press release said, if the theatergoer gives his or her entire ticket to a friend, that person may get $5 off another performance.
"Moby Dick" officially opens Nov. 13, followed by a reception. Director is Karen Kirkham, who will take the production to schools and arts centers around the region until March 2010.
With funding from Dickinson College, Dr. Robert Pound composed original music to underscore the Pendragon production. Much of the music, recorded and performed by Michael Cameron, is for solo cello.
Performances at Pendragon will be at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13, 14, 20 and 21 with 2 p.m. matinees Nov. 15 and 22. For future shows, check pendragontheatre.org.
Excluding the preview performance, admission is $20 for adults, $16 for seniors and students, and $10 for ages 17 and younger.
For information and reservations, call 891-1854, e-mail pdragon@northnet.org or go to pendragontheatre.org.
Workshop to teach carving CANTON — Woodcarver Ron Riley of Massena will conduct a carving workshop at Traditional Arts in Upstate New York (TAUNY), 53 Main St., Canton, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 14.
Participants, who are asked to bring basic carving tools if they have them, will carve a miniature loon. All other supplies will be provided.
The cost is $15 for members; $20 for nonmembers. Space is limited and preregistration is required, a press release said.
Call (315) 386-4289 or e-mail info@tauny.org to register.
For more information, go to www.TAUNY.org.
