Deadline for Beekmantown taxes nears
BEEKMANTOWN — Because Oct. 31 is on a Saturday this year, school taxes will be payable Monday, Nov. 2, to the School District collector.

After that date, taxes are turned over to the county treasurer and an additional 5-percent penalty, plus interest, will be added to November tax bills.

The postmark governs the date on mailed payments.

Board of Elections extends hours
PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Board of Elections will extend its hours to accommodate voters seeking assistance before Election Day, which is next Tuesday.

The office will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today instead of closing at 5 p.m.

The office will also be open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

People seeking applications for absentee ballots can get them at the office and take them home to fill out and mail them in or they can fill them out and hand them in right at the office.

Absentee ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 2.

Common Council to decide on running race
PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Common Council will address several items at tonight's meeting.

Among the agenda items to be acted on are a resolution to write off unpaid bills from the Municipal Lighting Department of $2,129 for November 2008, amending the boundaries of the Empire Zone and approving a half-marathon city-run event next April.

The meeting begins with a work session at 5 p.m. and the regular meeting at 5:30, both open to the public.

Boil water notice lifted
PORT KENT — The New York State Department of Health as lifted the boil water order for the Port Kent water district.

City to test emergency lights Friday
PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Department of Public Works will have a daytime test of the snow ban parking emergency lights Friday.

Moriah Toy Drive under way
MORIAH — Applications and donations are being accepted for the annual Town of Moriah Toy Drive.

The deadline for applications is Thursday, Dec. 10. To apply, contact Jeannie Ball, 546-8627; Gail Waldron, 546-3022; Laura Venne, 546-7704; or Brenda Baker, 546-7234.

Donations of money, new and unwrapped toys or gift certificates are being sought by the Port Henry Fire Department. Drop boxes and money-collection jars are located in local businesses; look for the big red star in participating business windows.

Donations may also be mailed to: PHFD Auxiliary, P.O. Box 146, Port Henry, NY 12974.

NCCS School Board meeting coming up
CHAMPLAIN — The Northeastern Clinton Central School Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Middle/High School library.

Among the items on the agenda are snow removal bids, appointment of personnel and appointment of substitutes.

The public may attend.
