Actors sought for Pendragon production SARANAC LAKE — Auditions for Pendragon Theatre's holiday production of "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" are set for noon Sunday.
There are parts for several adults and eight-plus children ages 9 through about 14. Rehearsals will begin Nov. 14 and continue to the opening performance Dec. 18.
Performances will take place in Saranac Lake Dec. 18 through 22 and at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts Dec. 26 through 29.
Those who are interested but cannot attend the introductory meeting and auditions Sunday are asked to leave a message at 891-1854.
Journalism Conference planned BLUE MOUNTAIN LAKE — The Adirondack Center for Writing will hold a Journalism Conference at the Blue Mountain Center in Blue Mountain Lake from 10 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10.
The cost is $30, and lunch is included.
Topics will include "How to Write a Compelling Story with a 24-hour Deadline," "Tough Reporting in Small Towns" and "How to Make a Living as a Freelance Journalist." There will also be a Blogging Panel Discussion.
Keynote speaker will be environmental journalist Jeff Goodell, author of "Big Coal: The Dirty Secret Behind America's Energy Future." Additional presenters include Will Doolittle of the Post Star, Mike Hill of The Associated Press and Brian Mann of North Country Public Radio. Balsam wreaths for sale
CANTON — Traditional Arts in Upstate New York is taking orders for fresh holiday balsam wreaths created by Jane Desotelle of Underwood Herbs in Chateaugay.
Three sizes are available, priced at between $25 and $40, with a $15 charge to ship small or medium wreaths anywhere in the United States.
Order deadline is Nov. 13 for wreaths to be picked up from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 21; order no later than Nov. 30 to pick up Dec. 5.
Traditional Arts is located at 53 Main St., Canton.

Juntunen cast in Saint Rose show ALBANY — Meagan Juntunen of Merrill will play the role of Maude in the College of Saint Rose Drama Program's production of "Cloud Nine," by British playwright Caryl Churchill.
"Cloud Nine" will be performed at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, through Sunday, Nov. 22, in the Saint Rose Campus Theatre, located behind 1000 Madison Ave., Albany. Admission is $10 or $5 with a Saint Rose ID.
Seating is limited and there are no reservations, a press release said.

Gingerbread Workshop set CANTON — Traditional Arts in Upstate New York is hosting its annual gingerbread workshop with Sue Wilder from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 21, at the United Methodist Church, 41 Court St., Canton.
The cost is $25 for Traditional Arts members and $30 for nonmembers. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required.

Art clubs to sell totes North Country art clubs are selling small canvas tote bags to be decorated and filled with nonperishable food as part of the "Art from the Heart" and "The Full Belly Bag Harvest" initiatives.
Participants can decorate a tote, fill it with food donations and return it to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Auction proceeds will benefit the art clubs, while the food will go to the ComLinks Gleaning Program and local food pantries.
The North Country Community College's Malone Art Club will hold a silent auction from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, in the Great Room/Mezzanine Gallery on the Malone campus. NCCC's Saranac Lake "Diverse Artíste" art club will host a student art opening from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at The Connector on Saranac Lake's main campus. Paul Smith College's art club event will be announced soon, a press release said.
