BLUE MOUNTAIN LAKE — The Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts will hold a Children's Theater Workshop from 10 a.m. to noon July 6 through 10 for ages 6 through 12.

The weeklong theater experience will teach basic stage acting and movement, concluding with a performance of "The Wizard of Oz" at 1 p.m. Friday, July 10. The cost is $60/$50 members.

Quinlivan to teach
pastel workshop

BLUE MOUNTAIN LAKE — Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts will hold a pastel workshop, "Painting the Landscape in Pastels," plein air painting with Joann Quinlivan, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, July 10, on the grounds of The Hedges in Blue Mountain Lake.

Students will first meet at the Arts Center. Covered in the workshop will be an introduction to pastels, methods of applying pastels, composition, color, seeing and interpretation, a press release said.

Franco-American Club
to meet July 15

PLATTSBURGH — As an exception to its regular meeting date, the next meeting of the North Country Franco-American Club will be held in the Emmaus Room of Saint Peter's Church at 7 p.m. July 15.

Plans will be made for the club's participation in the Battle of Plattsburgh Parade and other Champlain Quadricentennial events, a press release said.

The club is actively soliciting community members to develop costumes and a float theme for the parade. Work will also continue on developing a list of French heritage sites in the North Country.

The Franco-American Club meets regularly on the first Wednesday of every month. It is envisioned as an educational, historical, cultural and genealogical nonprofit organization that seeks to make people aware of the rich culture and history of the French and French Canadians in North America, with special emphasis on those who settled in northern New York.

Tickets on sale
for CVPH event

PLATTSBURGH — Tickets are on sale now for the Foundation of CVPH's summer event, Celebrate the Legacy: A Night To Remember, planned for 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 18, at Heart's Delight Farm in Chazy.

The evening will offer food by Anthony's Restaurant and Bistro and dancing to the music of the Albany-based Spare Parts Band.

Bidding for a silent auction will begin July 3 online, continue at the Celebrate the Legacy event and then online again at http://thelegacy.cmarket.com through July 17. Artwork and other items donated by local artisans and businesses will be featured, a press release said.

Tickets to Celebrate the Legacy are $100 each and support the foundation's capital fund campaign that began in May 2005 with the aim of raising $7 million to assist with surgery construction project costs. The campaign's new goal is $8.1 million.

Grant recipients
are announced

WESTPORT — The Arts Council for the Northern Adirondacks has announced the recipients of the Special Opportunity Stipend Grant Round 3 for opportunities in July through October.

They are Richard Brogowski, Anni Lorenzini and Ronald Nolland, all of Clinton County; Phil Gallos of Franklin County; and Lee Kazanas and Shami J. McCormick, both of Essex County.

The grant is designed to help individual artists of all disciplines take advantage of unique opportunities that will significantly benefit their work or career development, a press release said.

Deadlines are in February, May and September each year; there is no waiting period for artists to reapply if they have received funding previously.

The money is made available through the New York Foundation for the Arts.

WATERTOWN — The North Country Arts Council seeks artists, performers, writers and dancers to participate in its Summer Arts Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 15 at Thompson Park Bandstand, Watertown.

The visual arts section of the event will run all day, and the performances will be scheduled throughout the day, a press release said.

Quebec Archaeology Month features events in US
MONTREAL —The 2009 edition of Quebec Archaeology Month is in August when more than 50 archaeological and historic sites in 12 regions of Quebec will offer nearly 100 activities in the company of more than 40 archaeologists and specialists.

As a bonus this year, a press release said, 12 new activities are being offered by various sites around northern Lake Champlain in the United States to mark the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlain's explorations. Among them are: a talk by Keith Herkalo called "The Archaeological Importance of Pike's Cantonment," 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8 and 15, at the Battle of Plattsburgh Association, 31 Washington Road, Plattsburgh; a talk by William Van Sockum called "Rediscover the HMS Confiance Anchor," also at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Aug. 8 and 15 at the Clinton County Historical Museum, 98 Ohio Ave., Plattsburgh (the museum is also open for tours at 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday in August); the 250th anniversary of the French and Indian War Encampment at Crown Point State Historic Site, 21 Grandview Drive, Crown Point, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, and Sunday, Aug. 9; the annual fife and drum corps muster from 10 to 3 p.m. Aug. 1 at Fort Ticonderoga, Ticonderoga; and, also at Fort Ti throughout August, "The Face of War: Triumph and Tragedy at Ticonderoga, 1758-1759."

Festival Guild celebrates
TICONDEROGA — The 30th anniversary of the Ticonderoga Festival Guild was celebrated with a special cake at the President's Party held recently at Emerald's restaurant in the Ticonderoga Country Club.

Recognized were past presidents who attended: Susan Rathbun, Dorothy Henry, Stan Burdick, Dorothy Brauner and Casey Skahan. Current President Jerry Treadway chose this party as her event for the year.

Following a luncheon buffet, eight Red Hat members from the Ladies Between the Lakes presented a mystery called "Murder at the Earl of Grey's Hound Manor." The suspects were played by Carol Barnwell, Jolene Dyson, Dawn House, Janice House, Diane LaCourse, Ceil Lindstrom, Nan Reale and Jerry Treadway.

The President's Party offers a social time and raises funds to help defray expenses of the concert season, which this year begins July 7, a press release said.
