Karkoski outduels Vincent
TICONDEROGA -- Katie Karkoski got the better of Whitney Vincent in a great pitching duel as Ticonderoga edged AuSable Valley, 2-0, in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls' softball Wednesday.
Karkoski struck out 13, walked one and allowed two hits. While Vincent fanned seven, did not walk anyone and surrendered six hits.
Anna Besson and Arielle Vilardo led the Sentinels with two hits each.
Jessica Meredith's single in the third and Karly Lincoln's hit in the sixth were the lone hits off Karkoski.
Ticonderoga (8-2, 8-0) scored a run in the second inning when Vilardo singled and scored on Morgan Jordan's base hit.
In the fourth, Besson singled, stole second and came across on Vilardo's RBI single.

SARANAC -- Carissa Fournia, Jessica Myers and Kayla Nason rapped out two hits each to lead the Chiefs (7-1) past the Hornets.
Saranac took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Kelli Jock struck out two, did not walk anyone and allowed four hits in getting the win. Losing pitcher Jen Menard fanned four, walked one and surrendered eight hits.
