Published May 08, 2008 12:00 am - Ten Plattsburgh State athletes were honored by the conference in three spring sports.
Cards land 10 on All-SUNYAC teams
Kirby Davids, Stephanie Zweig and Jaclyn Leitze all made their third appearance on the SUNYAC Softball All-Conference Team. The three Plattsburgh State seniors were joined by teammates Amy Woo and Danielle Gjergji on the 2008 team announced Tuesday.
Brockport's Courtney Turchan was named Player of the Year. Cortland's Katie Finch was selected as Pitcher of the Year, and teammate Donnalyn Cross was awarded Rookie of the Year. Sandra Hollander of Buffalo State received Coach of the Year honors.
Pitchers Zweig and Leitze tied for second in the conference with 171 strikeouts each. Zweig's 16 wins were second-best in the SUNYAC, and Leitze was right behind with 14. Zweig finished with a 1.77 ERA, and Leitze had a 2.09 ERA.
Davids, a shortstop, finished fifth in the conference with 15 stolen bases. She was Plattsburgh State's second-leading hitter, batting .387 with 43 hits.
Woo, a sophomore second baseman, finished third in the conference with a .400 average. She was first in runs scored (42) and walks (26) and third in home runs (6). Woo also made the All-Conference Team as a freshman.
Gjergji, a sophomore leftfielder, was second in the SUNYAC with 35 RBI. She hit .315 and had 40 hits, which ranked third among Plattsburgh State players.
