KEESEVILLE — The Kingsland Square Bistro has merged with The Skinny Baker and is now known as Kingsland Square Bistro & Bakery. The owners of the new establishment are Jim Hewitt along with Christa and Bob Zoeller.
The new establishment is located at 1717 Front St. in Keeseville and offers a breakfast and lunch menu with specialty breakfast sandwiches, fresh juices, smoothies and items from the grill such as Buffalo Burgers and Alaskan Salmon. They also offer gluten free items.
The Bistro & Bakery has a friendly seating area and Wi-Fi. They are focused on buying local first whenever they can, and no produce comes from outside the U.S.A. It is a healthy place for breakfast or lunch or a nice place to pick up some freshly baked goods, according to the owners.
They are open Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are closed Sunday.

Roducky Derby set
PLATTSBURGH — Now in its 15th year, the Roducky Derby is an opportunity to help raise funds for the many charitable organizations that the Plattsburgh Rotary Club supports in the North Country.
The derby will start in front of the Macdonough Monument around 3 p.m. Saturday following the Beat Retreat during the Battle of Plattsburgh festivities. It will be part of Rotary Race Day, which will include the fourth annual running of the Rotary Bed Race.
Hundreds of yellow rubber ducks will be let loose to careen down a man-made river along the sidewalk leading to the Saranac River.
“These are racing ducks that have been training and preparing for months to go out and raise money for local non-profits,” said Ellen Bouchard, Roducky Derby chairperson.
The numbered ducks sport sunglasses, smiles and race for the sake of charity. Each duck will race to the finish line in an effort to win a prize for the person who adopted it. Ducks that make it first into the duck trap win prizes donated by local businesses for their adopters.
WPTZ NewsChannel 5 and the Rotary Club are providing this year’s grand prize, two tickets to “Live with Kelly and Michael” in New York City with transportation and overnight lodging.

PLATTSBURGH — A limited edition 110th Anniversary Harley Davison Super Glide Motorcycle is being raffled off by the Plattsburgh Noon Rotary Club to benefit local charitable organizations supported by the club.
Enterants may win one of only 1,450 made of the 110th Anniversary edition. There are 1,000 tickets available at $25 each. The drawing will take place immediately following the Roducky Derby on Sept. 14 or when all 1,000 tickets have been sold. The winner will be responsible for registration, taxes, title and license.

ELIZABETHTOWN — The annual Hunters’ Health Screening will take place at Elizabethtown Community Hospital from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18. This is an opportunity for hunters to receive a basic health evaluation at no cost.
This screening will allow hunters the opportunity to have a physical that will assess their overall health before they set out into the woods. Results will be reviewed by a physician that evening and an opportunity to ask questions about health status is also available.
The health screening will assess blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and oxygen levels. Hospital staff will also check vision, height and weight, providing an overall health picture. Participants will also have an EKG reading taken, an important test that measures heart health. A team of nurses and lab staff will conduct the screening.
According to RN Julie Tromblee, basic health evaluations allow physicians an opportunity to uncover physical conditions that can put individuals at risk.
“Considering that hunters are exerting themselves in areas that may be far from home and difficult to access by emergency personnel, it’s important that they have a yearly physical to ensure that there are no obvious health issues that make them vulnerable,” she said. “This hospital’s mission includes protecting the health of our community members, and the Hunters’ Health Screening event allows us to do just that.”
The hospital lobby also will be filled with information related health and safety.
PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Chamber of Commerce is offering a special breakfast seminar on What You Need to Know About Changes in Health Insurance. The program is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 8 a.m. at the Holiday Inn in Plattsburgh.
The Adirondack Health Institute will provide a full presentation on elements of the Affordable Care Act coming into effect for January, including mandated coverage provisions, qualifications for potential federal support and the workings of the new State Health Exchange.
The North Country Chamber and its licensed health-insurance agency, the Plattsburgh-North Country Service Corp., will outline its new collaborative approach to health-insurance services, including its ability to serve small businesses and individuals in both the private market and through the new state exchange starting in October.
Health Republic, a new federally supported co-op health insurance carrier entering the North Country market, is serving as corporate sponsor of the program and will provide information regarding their new operation and plans.

PLATTSBURGH — The Champlain Valley Business and Professional Women’s Club (BPW) will celebrate National Business Women’s Week during the third week in October. Beginning in 1928, this event sponsored by the Foundation of Business and Professional Women is designed to recognize and honor the achievements of working women throughout history.
The Champlain Valley BPW is seeking nominations for Business Woman of the Year and Employer of the Year. The following criteria are suggested as qualifications of nominees for Employer of the Year: Provides outstanding opportunities for upward mobility and additional training for female employees, has established a job-evaluation system that creates salary levels that provide equal pay for equal work, allows for salaries based on comparable worth, provides opportunities for development of new female talent, exhibits sensitivity to the needs of female employees, provides support for dependent care and has established liberal parental leave policies and/or flexible leave policies for employees.

Festival to be held
PLATTSBURGH — The Second Annual Adirondack Coast Wine, Cider and Food Festival will be held Oct. 12 with a spotlight on local agriculture.
Locally crafted wines will pair with local gourmet food vendors at the Crete Civic Center in Plattsburgh from noon to 8 p.m. This festival is one-of-a-kind to the region and will serve up unique local cold-climate wines, ciders and farm products from local artisans.
Admission is $25 until Oct. 11 and $30 at the door with a portion of admission being donated to the Chazy Lions Club. Festival goers will enjoy sipping and sampling regional products while surrounded by nonstop entertainment including live music and demonstrations such as the 101’s of wine tasting, cider making for the home hobbyist, and the Great Lucy Grape Stomp. Guests from wine connoisseurs to foodies and entertainment junkies will be given an unforgettable experience, all while supporting local agriculture.
New this year is a culinary challenge featuring local college students. It will be a nod to civilizations’ earliest cooking techniques. TICONDEROGA — The Ticonderoga Federal Credit Union (TFCU) has received a Crystal Loyalty Award for member loyalty from the Raddon Financial Group (RFG). TFCU is among the top ranked credit unions in member loyalty in 2012, one of six credit unions in the country to receive this honor.
