Maple Dropline Workshop to be held
WEST CHAZY — Sugarmakers of all sizes are invited to attend workshops this fall that will highlight research on sap yields from utilizing different spouts and droplines. The workshops will provide an overview of research highlights and provide participants with useful guidelines for how to improve sap yields and profitability through cost-effective spout and dropline replacement techniques.
The workshops, supported by the Northern New York Agricultural Development Program and the Northeastern New York Maple Producers Association, will be led by Michael Farrell, Ph.D., director of The Uihlein Forest-Cornell University’s Maple Syrup Research and Extension Field Station in Lake Placid
The Clinton County workshop will be at 9 a.m. on Oct. 5 hosted by Parker Family Maple, West Chazy. The workshop starts with a presentation at the tent followed by tubing demonstrations in the Parker’s sugarbush. Everyone is invited to stay for the pellet evaporator demonstration and Parker Family Maple Farm’s fall open house. Pig-roast-style lunch will be offered compliments of Parkers.

Pasture walk, grazing discussion offered
SCHUYLER FALLS — A Late Summer Pasture Walk and Grazing Discussion will be held Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. at Hagar Hill Beef Farm in Schuyler Falls, 1374 Rt. 22B, Morrisonville.
Joshua Bakelaar from the Adirondack North Country Association will talk about soil health and how rotational grazing can improve pastures. The results of a recent no-till pasture improvement seeding will be reviewed as will how the Agricultural Environmental Management Program can help plan an environmentally friendly farm.
