ROUSES POINT — New owners bring new ideas to a popular Rouses Point restaurant.
Kosta and Alessandra Kefalas bought Angelo’s Pizza and Grill, located at 44 Champlain St. in Rouses Point, on Oct. 1.
“We really like the area. We think this is a very good business opportunity,” Kosta said.
He was born in Greece but grew up in New Hampshire near the coast. Kosta grew up in the restaurant business, as his parents have owned restaurants for more than 25 years.
“It’s fun. I really love it,” he said.
Alessandra said she’s originally from Greece and has been here for almost a year. Kosta said the recently married couple bought the restaurant so they can start their lives together in a new business, and plan to be in it for the long haul.
He does most of the cooking, with his wife helping out when possible.
Angelo’s offers a variety of sandwiches, wraps, pasta, seafood, pizza, calzones, salads and appetizers. Kosta said they sell a lot of pizza, and the pasta dishes are also very popular.
They offer prime rib on Friday and Saturday nights, which has been well received. People also seem to enjoy the seafood dishes.
Alessandra said they look forward to making some additions to the menu in the future while keeping all the old favorites, including some Greek cuisine. Her homemade tzatziki — Greek yogurt mixed with olive oil, garlic, cucumber and more — is already on the menu.
“We have a big variety of desserts,” Alessandra said.
Beer and wine are also available. Kosta said they plan to expand the wine list in the future.
They also are looking to add to the ambiance, which Kosta said is a work in progress. The decor features rich red hardwood accents, while a large bank of windows creates a bright atmosphere.
There is a mixture of booths and tables. The ceiling includes a variety of drop-down lights and ceiling fans.
The goal is provide a nice dining experience for all their customers, Alessandra said.
“We have a plan for this place,” Kosta said, adding that includes the possibility of outdoor seating sometime in the next few years.
His mother’s brothers used to own the restaurant. Kosta and Alessandra were in town to visit when they heard the brothers were thinking about selling.
Angelo’s has about 20 employees, a mix of full- and part-time staff. The Kefalas are trying to foster a team-oriented work environment.
“We have a good team. They’re really great people,” Kosta said.
They are working on a new website, but daily specials and photos are posted on their Facebook page. Customers can receive a menu by fax, and the full menu is expected to be listed in the Yellow Pages soon.
The Kefalas have received a warm welcome to the community. He said Alessandra in particular has been very good at meeting as many customers as possible.
“We want to thank everyone for their support,” she said. “We really appreciate all of our customers.”
The restaurant can seat about 100 people. Angelo’s takes reservations for large parties.
Alessandra said they enjoy decorating for special occasions, such as Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day. The Valentine’s Day decorations featured a variety of bright red garlands, hearts and flowers.
Angelo’s is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Take out is available, and payment can be made by cash or credit card.
