CANTON — Amanda Schermerhorn finished over 10 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor in the one-mile run to lead the Plattsburgh State women’s track and field team to a third-place finish at the St. Lawrence Invitational on Saturday.
The senior out of Scotia, N.Y., was clocked for a time of 5:15.48 and proved to be the only Plattsburgh State competitor to finish in first place in any event.
Plattsburgh State collected 66.5 points, while the host institution St. Lawrence won the event with a total of 176 points. The University of Ottawa earned a runner-up finish by amassing 137 points.
In other track events, senior Rosi Cummings posted a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.18 while fellow final-year competitor Kristie Pageau enjoyed a fifth-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 10 seconds flat.
Freshman Kelly Siry was clocked at 1:27.42 in the 500-meter dash, a time that put her in fifth place. In the 800-meter run, Pageau took sixth place with a time of 2:31.45 while Christen Averill finished in eighth place among the field of 19 runners with a time of 2:34.91.
Colleen Coon and Lauren Templeton finished fifth and sixth respectively out of nine runners who took part in the 3,000-meter run. Coon traversed the course in a time of 10:32.18 while Templeton was clocked at 11:29.11.
The 4x200 team of Roxanne Grolley, Bryanna Mustapich, Lauren Carlino and Siry finished in fifth place out of seven teams with a time of 1:58.58. In the 4x400 event, Schermerhorn, Averill, Katie Ehmann and Erika Ozols posted a time of 4:35.20 that helped them finish third among four teams.
In the shot put, Amanda Gadway made a third-place throw of 10.5 meters while her sister, Ashley, tossed 10.05 meters for a sixth-place standing. Amanda’s weight throw of 13.84 meters earned the sophomore a runner-up finish while Ashley took sixth place with a throw of 12.40 meters.
