Flashback: May 19, 2013

10 YEARS AGO (2003)

Kirsten Alexander takes 4 firsts as the Saranac girls complete their second straight unbeaten season in CVAC track & field. The NCCS boys, led by triple-winner Rob Menard, also finish the season undefeated. The two teams go on to take the Section 7 titles.

Noel Merrihew, Joe Huttig, Derek Ratliff and Grant Martin lead Elizabethtown-Lewis to a perfect 10-0 finish to the MVAC golf season.

Saranac sophomore Nikki Foster carries a no-hitter into the seventh before settling for a one-hit, 9-0 win over NAC. Renee Miner’s infield single ends the no-hit try.

Tiarra Garrow, Kailey Ryan and Jo Meyer sweep in singles to give the Peru girls a perfect finish to the CVAC tennis season.

Connor Kelly, Brennen McHugh, Greg Hoyt and Lance Branch pace Saranac Lake to a 9-stroke victory in the Section 7 golf championship. McHugh goes on to win the individual title.

20 YEARS AGO (1993)

Champlain’s Ben Gooley tosses a 300 game on his way to winning the Boys’ Scratch Division (grades 9-12) and a $1,000 scholarship at the state finals of the National Junior Bowling Championships in Plattsburgh.

Westport’s Matt Brankman pitches a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks in a 5-0 victory over Keene.

Peru clinches the CVAC track & field championships. Julie Rock wins 3 events and adds a first in the relays as the girls extend their dual-meet win streak to 46 while Levander Choplin, Matt Goette and Tremaine Williams lead the boys to their third straight conference crown.

Mike Jolin shoots an 83 to capture his third consecutive individual title and Scott Johnson adds an 85 to help PHS win its third Section VII golf crown in four years.

Britt Isham pitches a 4-hitter with 7 strikeouts and Danielle Nowotenski delivers 3 hits to lead Keene over Chazy, 8-5, for the overall MVAC softball title.
