Winter wonderland

One of the best things about living in the North Country is to see a morning sunrise, especially along Lake Champlain.

Sunrise is that instant at which the edge of the sun appears over the eastern horizon in the early morning hours. Although the sun appears to “rise” from the horizon, it’s actually an illusion because it is the Earth’s motion that causes the sun to appear in the morning sky.

Astronomically, sunrise occurs for only an instant as is comes over the horizon. However, the term “sunrise” commonly refers to the periods before and after that point boasting beautiful morning colors. The intense reds and peach colors in brilliant sunrises come from scattering atmospheric dust and aerosols, like water droplets in clouds.

So, here are a few of my favorite sunrises that I have come across in my travels through out the region.
