PSU women tie Bard in soccer

---- — PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh State women’s soccer team couldn’t find the back of the net Saturday and had to settle for a scoreless overtime tie with Bard College in the consolation game of the Best Western Cardinal Classic.

There wasn’t a lot of scoring chances as the Cardinals (1-2-1) finished with a slim 6-5 edge in shots on goal.

“We’re not creating enough dangerous chances,” Plattsburgh coach Karen Waterbury said. “We play too vertical at times.

“Bard is decent defensively. I thought we started slowly today, but the girls rebounded from a bad first half.”

Charisse Abellard was in net for Plattsburgh and recorded the shutout with five saves. In goal for Bard College was Lily Harris with six stops.

“Emily (LaLone) played well for us again and I thought our back four did a nice job,” Waterbury said. “There were some positives that came out of the game because a tie is better than a loss.

“The girls played hard for the most part and it’s always nice to get a shutout. We just have to find a way to be more explosive in the opponent’s end.”

The Cardinals hit the road for non-conference games at Mount Saint Mary College and Vassar College this coming weekend.
