Off the Hookah open in Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH — A new nightclub seeks to bring a unique style to downtown Plattsburgh.

Off the Hookah opened in mid-October at 14 Margaret St., the former Therapy Sports Lounge location. Manager Devin Hilts said it is owned by Fort Lauderdale-based Ehab Atallah, who has four other locations — Fort Lauderdale, Miami and West Palm Beach in Florida and Richmond, Va.

Off the Hookah is a bar, nightclub and herbal, non-tobacco hookah lounge in one. It features a distinct Egyptian decor, with artwork such as a sarcophagus scattered throughout.

“There’s nothing like this in the whole area,” Hilts said.

Premium lighting, sound

The lighting and sound system alone ran about $250,000, Hilts said. LED lights lined along the edges of the bars and other interior features provide a changing color scheme that reflects off the large array of liquor bottles.

VIP areas with sofa seating are located on the upper level and near the main dance floor. Those rooms or even the entire club can be rented for private events.

There is a combination of booths and tables for guests. Beige and tan tile floors make up the dance floor and provide ease of cleaning.

There are seven 60-inch flatscreen televisions. There is also a six-by-10-ft. projection screen above one the bars, ideal for televised sporting events.

The club has 20 beers on tap and about 25 varieties in bottles. There is an extensive liquor inventory as well as three labels of red wine, three labels of white wine and champagne.

They are presently finalizing a menu, with food service expected to be available before the end of the year.

There are about 35 employees at present, including waitresses who provide service to the tables and VIP areas. The club is rated for a crowd of 600.

There are two DJ stations, one up front and one in the back. A large overhead door can split the club into two sections to help provide privacy for special events.
