Student magazine earns All-American rating
PLATTSBURGH — Do North: Touring the Adirondack Coast, a print magazine produced by SUNY Plattsburgh journalism students, earned an All-American rating from the Associated Collegiate Press.
The designation, which is the highest rating available from that group, was awarded to Do North for its debut issue.
Do North focuses on tourism in Clinton County and the surrounding region and is the official in-flight magazine on PenAir’s Plattsburgh-Boston route.
Funded by the Adirondack Coast Visitors Bureau and SUNY Plattsburgh’s Department of Journalism, Do North’s summer/fall 2013 issue, released in May, received a total judges’ score of 495 points, more than enough to meet the All-American standard of 450.
The first issue of the twice-yearly publication also received Marks of Distinction in four categories: Writing and Editing; Photography, Art, Graphics; Layout; and Concept.
Judges praised the magazine’s layout and photography, as well its unique community partnership with the Adirondack Coast Visitors Bureau.
Do North’s all-student staff was led by Editor-in-Chief Alexandria Sisson, Managing Editor Ashley McKenelley, Deputy Editor Krystle Morey and Photo Editors Tom Cohen and James Heffron.
The SUNY Plattsburgh faculty advisers for Do North are Jennifer Meschinelli (advertising) and Luke Cyphers (editorial).
