Area runners improve on times

WAPPINGERS FALLS — Four Section VII athletes competed Saturday in the New York State Federation Cross-Country Championships at Bowdoin Park in Wappinger Falls.

The Federation Meet combines all 4 classes of the NYSPHSAA (A, B, C, D) as well as the CHSAA, the PSAL and AIS.

The three section VII runners who competed last year saw big improvements in their times and place.

Jeriqho Gadway of Plattsburgh High School had the highest finish, coming in 47th in a time of 16 minutes, 54 seconds. Last year he was 149th in 17:49.

Mitchell Ryan of Seton finished 115th in a time of 17:29. He was 192nd last year in a time of 18:10.

Sebastian Hanson of Arlington was the overall winner in 16:00. Saratoga was the boys’ team champion. There were 255 finishers in the race.

On the girls’ side, Seton Catholic’s Margaret Champagne finished 100th in a time of 20:21. This was an improvement of her 133rd place finish last year when she ran 20:59.

Running at her first Federation Championship, Melissa Whyman of Seton Catholic finished 187th in a time of 21:59.

Bella Burda of Arlington was the overall winner in 17:56.

Saratoga was the girls’ team champion. There were 255 finishers in the race.
