---- — PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh North Stars gained 286 yards in the first half Saturday.
And the defense was as staunch as the offense was prolific.
The Stars opened a 36-0 halftime lead and rolled to a 64-7 win over Glens Falls in an Empire Football League game at Plattsburgh High School.
The Stars (2-1, 2-0 EFL) scored on every possession of the first half except the last one, when they got the ball with 8.6 seconds left and took a knee. Eight of their nine touchdowns in the game came through the air.
It was the second blowout in a row for the Stars; they beat the Vermont Ice Storm 49-0 last week.
“The offense is clicking, but it’s the offensive line that’s doing the work,” Stars quarterback Harry Rascoe said. “They’re picking up everything. They’re talking. Fullback Elijah Parks is really doing well. (Josh) Nephew’s running hard. We’ve got two good running backs; that opens up the passing game.”
After stuffing the Greenjackets’ running game on the opening drive, Plattsburgh marched 61 yards to the end zone, culminating with Rascoe’s high 26-yard pass to Craig Bujold. The Stars took a 14-0 lead late in the first quarter after Rascoe hit Andrew Price just inside the back line for a 15-yard touchdown.
In the second, Dexter Geohagan caught the ball around the 10-yard line, shook off his defender and ran to pay dirt for a 19-yard score. Before the quarter ended, Price grabbed the ball and took off for a 46-yard touchdown, and Geohagan hauled in a 76-yard scoring pass.
Plattsburgh held the Greenjackets to eight yards combined on their first two possessions. Glens Falls (0-2, 0-2) didn’t get past midfield until the middle of the second quarter, and that was with the help of a 15-yard personal foul. On their next possession, the Greenjackets reached the red zone and were in prime position to get on the scoreboard. But on first-and-goal with 18.1 seconds left, Jamil McCray picked off Brenden Frye’s pass.
Glens Falls had 95 yards of offense in the half.
“The defense did a good job,” Plattsburgh coach Scott Aguglia said. “We thought it was important to control the running game, and we really focused on that early on. And we did a good job of shutting that down, and the momentum took us from there.”
Price and Geohagan each added another touchdown catch in the third quarter. Then Rascoe ran in from the 2, and the Stars took a 50-0 lead into the fourth.
The Greenjackets spoiled the shutout in the fourth with a 60-yard drive capped by Kevin Caradonna’s 1-yard touchdown.
Bujold’s 76-yard bomb to Geohagan wrapped up the scoring.
Rascoe finished with seven passing touchdowns and one on the ground. He completed 11-of-18 passes for 244 yards.
“This is Harry’s second year with a lot of these receivers,” Aguglia said. “There’s a lot of good chemistry developed now, and a lot of times it only takes a look or a glance for one of the receivers to adjust a pattern here or there. And they’re just really on the same page right now.”
Geohagan led the receiving corps with four catches — all touchdowns — for 149 yards. Price had three touchdowns and 102 yards, and D.J. Barber grabbed two passes for 21 yards.
Nephew paced Plattsburgh’s ground attack with 56 yards on five carries, and Rascoe ran for 48 yards.
Frye was 8-for-21 for Glens Falls, totaling 94 passing yards and two interceptions. Caradonna rushed 60 yards on 15 carries.
Plattsburgh finished with 495 yards of offense, and while most of that came courtesy of the passing game, Aguglia said that won’t always be the case.
“We’re pretty balanced to be honest,” he said. “When we have to run, we can and we will.”
