Adirondacks capture two in Post 326 tourney

LAKE PLACID — Chris Clarke and Ryan Trudeau turned in strong pitching performances Saturday and the Post 326 Adirondacks scored their runs late while capturing the Post 326 Tournament.

The Adirondacks (2-3), winning their first games of the season, recorded a 2-1 decision over North Lawrence and a 3-1 victory over Williams Russell Post of Vernon.

Against North Lawrence, Clarke allowed three hits and struck out 12 in going the distance for the win.

“Clarke struggled a little with his control early on,” Adirondacks coach Rik Cassidy said. “But once he settled in, he was nearly unhittable. He pitched a great game.”

North Lawrence held a 1-0 lead until the sixth when Post 326 tied the game on Jerrod McDougall’s single and Alex Brandes’ run-scoring double.

The Adirondacks then scored the game-winning run in the seventh when Kolby Pertak walked, stole second and came across when Clarke was safe on an infield error.

Post 326 ended up with seven hits and Brandes led the way with two.

Against Russell Post, Trudeau allowed only a second-inning run while surrendering four hits and striking out 11.

“I can’t say enough about both our pitchers today,” Cassidy said. “Trudeau was great as well.”

Just like in their first game, the Adirondacks scored late.

Post 326 tied it in the sixth when Connor Preston walked and eventually scored on an infield grounder.

The Adirondacks then rapped out four of their six hits in the contest in a row in the seventh. Drew Sturgeon tripled, Ryan Damp added a game-winning RBI single, Clarke singled and Trudeau delivered a RBI single.

“Our pitching has been solid so far,” Cassidy said. “Even though the hits for us came late today, we had some timely hits. We’re coming around.”
