Hornets fall to Northwood in boys' hockey

NORWOOD — The Plattsburgh High boys’ hockey team was unable to dig itself out of a three-goal deficit, falling to Northwood School in non-league action Saturday afternoon, 5-2.

The Huskies were able to tally consecutive goals in the final 2:42 of the opening stanza. The first from Noah Wild, while the second was credited to Tommy Kyte.

“We came out flat,” Hornets (8-3) coach Jamie Reidy said. “We played at 8:15 (Friday night) and 1 o’clock (Saturday) and I think we were a little fatigued. Their first two goals were missed assignments in the defensive zone.”

Following Matt Headland’s goal to extend the differential to three, Eric Bechard tallied his third point of the weekend on a goal at the 9:14 mark.

“We carried play in the second and third periods,” Reidy said. “I was happy with our effort and showed no quit, but we’ve got to come ready to play for all three periods.”

Jack Tolosky was the second and final goal scorer on the afternoon for Plattsburgh High, notching a marker at 5:34 of the final stanza.

“We hope to learn from our mistakes,” Reidy said. “We’ve got a short bench right now, but the intensity was there throughout. This was the first time in 11 games that we’ve allowed more than two goals.”

Robby Knowles was credited with the loss between the pipes, fending off 19 of 24 shots faced.

Both Tolosky and Alex Maston were named to the All-Tournament team.

The Hornets travel to Lake Placid Wednesday for a highly-anticipated Champlain Valley Athletic Conference bout.
