Lions, Warriors share North Country Tournament title

ELIZABETHTOWN — Austin Morris and Hugh Harwood each tallied goals as Elizabethtown-Lewis defeated Keene 2-0 to capture a share of the North Country Tournament title with Willsboro.

The tournament was based on a points system.

After a scoreless first half, Morris got through the defense and buried a shot with 17 minutes gone to give the Lions (4-2) a 1-0 lead.

Hugh Harwood, with just 4:26 left in regulation, delivered a shot that Keene goalie Max Rossi made the initial save on. But Harwood followed his shot and gave Elizabethtown-Lewis an insurance goal.

“I thought Keene’s defense played great,” Lions coach Paul Buehler said. “We took a lot of shots on frame and (Rossi) had really good positioning for the saves. He made a few acrobatic saves.”

Rossi made 16 saves in suffering the loss for the Beavers. Justin Haverlick and Gabe Warner were also standouts for Keene.

Justin Lapier turned away three shots for the shutout victory. Trevor Brooks and Geeg Dedam, playing new positions, each played a strong game for Elizabethtown-Lewis.
