PLATTSBURGH — Following a two-goal effort in the third period to tie the game at five a piece, the Plattsburgh High boys’ hockey team surrendered an overtime marker to Trevor Henderson in a 6-5 loss to Franklin Academy in non-league action Saturday.
Jamie Reidy, whose No. 13-ranked Hornets played with a lot of energy to start the game, said his squad had a mental lapse during a six-minute span in the middle period.

The No. 9 Huskies erased a 2-0 deficit and cashed in on goals from Trevor Cooley, Shawn Mulverhill and Jacob Henning.
“Our blown lead was the result of too many defensive breakdowns,” Reidy said. “We were understaffed with 15 players, but I thought we played pretty well.”
The third period belonged to Plattsburgh High, who received J.D. Side’s first career varsity goal and Devin Clarke’s game-tying marker with 6:03 remaining in regulation.
However, Henderson’s blast with 2:53 gone in the overtime period gave Franklin Academy the victory.
“We were so shorthanded that (goaltender) Robby Knowles agreed to dress as a forward,” Reidy said. “He’s the ultimate team player. No one is ever happy after a loss, but I was pleased with our performance considering the circumstances.
“Their goalie (Joey Brown) was terrific. Coach (Chuck) Dievendorf does things the right way and it’s a credit to his program.”
The Hornets managed to hold the advantage in shots on goal, 38-15.
