---- — PLATTSBURGH — This year’s City of Plattsburgh Fourth of July celebration will begin with the annual parade.
Marchers step off at 2 p.m. from Wilcox Dock. The route will wind down Cumberland Avenue to Cornelia Street up to Margaret Street and then down to Broad Street, where it ends.
Lineup for the parade is at noon on Cumberland Avenue in front of Wilcox Dock. The dock will be closed that day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The theme of this year’s parade is “Champy Volunteers; How About You?” Floats can be decorated with scenes of Champy, the mythical creature of Lake Champlain, performing some kind of community service.
Anyone interested in participating in the parade can contact Beth Carlin in the Mayor’s Office at 563-7701 or email email@example.com.
MAYOR’S CUP IDOL
Following the parade, event host Eagle Country 97.5 will be hosting auditions for the Mayor’s Cup Idol competition. The tryouts will be held on the stage in Trinity Park.
To enter, go to Eaglecountry975.com and complete the entry form.
The semi-finals of the competition will be held during Mayor’s Cup weekend on July 12. The finals will be on July 13.
The winner will open for Lorrie Morgan at the Clinton County Fair on July 17.
Tunes of Time will provide the karaoke and DJ services for the Mayor’s Cup competition.
At 7 p.m. on the Fourth of July, the Bootleg Band will perform on the Trinity Park stage, playing popular country songs. Garvey Hyundai is sponsoring that event.
The much-anticipated fireworks display will be held around 9:30 p.m. downtown.
“We look forward to another great Fourth of July celebration this year,” Mayor Donald Kasprzak said.
“The parade, scheduled events, local vendors and fireworks will, hopefully, bring many visitors to the downtown area to enjoy all the festivities.”
