Dumas helps send Keene into Class D semifinals

KEENE — Keene had a strong first half and held off Willsboro down the stretch to pull out a 47-34 victory in Saturday’s Section VII Class D boys’ quarterfinal matchup.

The Beavers will take on Moriah, a 60-27 winner over Lake Placid, in the semifinals on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at AuSable Valley.

Brandon Dumas led the charge for Keene with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Austin Brown added 14 points, while Colton Venner chipped in with 10 points.

“We had a balanced attack,” Beavers coach Chad Lopez said. “The game was a close game. Willsboro closed the gap to four and battled throughout the third quarter.

“We were able to pull away in the fourth quarter to seal the game.”

Nick Arnold had a strong game for the Warriors with 12 points. Zach Pierson added seven points and Lucas Cross, six.

Moriah 60, Lake Placid 27

PORT HENRY — Adam Jaquish tallied 18 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as the top-seeded Vikings controlled the Blue Bombers in their quarterfinal matchup.

Moriah held a slim two-point lead after the first quarter, and pushed it to 11 points at the half before outscoring Lake Placid 34-12 in the second half.

“Lake Placid played very well in the first half,” Vikings coach Brian Cross said. “We outscored them 22-9 in the third quarter, which set the tone for the game.”

Taylor Slattery scored 12 of his 13 points in the third quarter for Moriah. Jarrod MacDougal chipped in with eight points, and Tyler Pratt tossed in seven points.

Davis Moore led the way for the Blue Bombers with eight points. Scott Rossi finished with six points.
