Grand jury to hear gang assault, robbery cases

PLATTSBURGH — A Clinton County grand jury will hear of cases of four New York City natives who have been charged in connection with an alleged gang assault that police believe stemmed from drug dealing.

Sadiki Mason, 20; Atatiana Hunt, 21; and Gavin Hunt, 18, remained in the Clinton County Jail Friday for lack of $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond, according to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department.

Michael Brown, 42, is being held without bail.

‘BEAT WITH WOODEN ROD’

Mason, Brown and Mr. Hunt were all charged in December with second-degree gang assault, a felony, after an investigation that began with a late-night phone call to Plattsburgh City Police from CVPH Medical Center Emergency Room employees, Plattsburgh City Police Lt. Scott Beebie said.

The victim of the assault, whose name police would not release, was lured to a Montcalm Avenue apartment where the three men beat him with a 3-foot wooden rod, he said.

Ms. Hunt was charged with third-degree robbery for forcibly taking another woman’s wallet, said Plattsburgh City Police Sgt. Brad Kiroy, who investigated the case.

‘PREPARING TO MOVE’

Ms. Hunt, Mason and Brown likely came to the North Country to sell drugs and had been living in an apartment at 21 Clinton St., Kiroy said.

And at least two of them had been staying at the Montcalm Street apartment while preparing to move to New Jersey.

At the time of the alleged crime, Mr. Hunt was visiting Plattsburgh for the weekend, having traveled here from New Jersey, Kiroy said.
