Charles Whitford

CHEEKTOWAGA/MORIAH — Charles Whitford, 80, born March 7, 1933, son of the late Perl and Harriet (Brown) Whitford, died quietly at Elderwood Nursing Home in Cheektowaga, N.Y. on Dec. 9, 2013.

Beloved husband of Anna, proud father of Donald (Cathy), William (Teresa) and Julie. Cherished grandfather of nine and great-grandfather of three. Survived by much loved sister Addie; and sister-in-law Dorothy; along with many in-laws; nieces and nephews. Predeceased by Bernard and Betty, Harold R. and Marion, Leon, Karl, and Donald.

Charlie will be remembered as an easygoing, compassionate man who adored his family and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a gentle man and a gentleman. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Niagara Mohawk in Buffalo, N.Y., after 35 years and returned with Anna to his family home in Moriah, N.Y. to enjoy his retirement years. Charlie will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A funeral took place in Buffalo on Dec. 1. There will be a memorial service for Charlie in Moriah and the burial will be in the South Moriah Cemetery at the family's convenience in the spring. Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
