Carpenter hoop event June 21
PORT HENRY -- The Brian T. Carpenter Memorial 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will be held Saturday, June 21, beginning at 9 a.m. at Moriah Central School. The tournament is open to four-player teams of all girls, all boys or coed
Age groups are 12-14, 14-16, 16-18, 18 and over, and old-timers (40 and over) with championship prizes awarded in each bracket.
Games will be to 11 points, but teams must win by two. Games will be limited to 30 minutes. Entry fee is $30 per team and must be received by June 7. No late entries will be accepted.

ADK chapter sets Spring Walk
PLATTSBURGH -- The Algonquin Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club invites the public to join its members for a Rand Hill Spring Walk Wednesday to look for birds and wildflowers. It will be an easy outing.

ADK offers camping experience
PLATTSBURGH -- The Adirondack Mountain Club has five-day high school projects reserved for teenagers (ages 14-17) who have a desire to spend a week in the woods camping while participating in and experiencing trail work with experienced leaders.
Participants will arrive at base camp on a Sunday evening for dinner and orientation. Participants will be out of the woods late afternoon on the following Friday. There is a $250 participation fee for these projects. Scholarships are available. It is a great way to do community service. For more information, call 523-3441.

Area wrestlers make nationals
CRARYVILLE -- Five wrestlers representing TEAM K*O*P qualified for the NHSCA Open Nationals last weekend at Taconic Hills High School in Craryville. The nationals will be June 26-29 in Salisbury, Md.
Dylan Baker, 90 pounds, took first while Brandon Sawyer, 60, and Robert Baker, 112, came in second. Taylor Hall, 105, was third and Lance Sawyer, 154, fourth.
Fundraisers are planned to help with the expenses. A bottle drive is underway and 50/50 raffle tickets are being sold from now until June 23. Coed softball tourney slated
MALONE -- A coed softball tournament to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation will be held June 14-15 at the AmVets Club in Malone. Entry fee is $150 per team with $50 going to the Foundation and $100 to the top teams, based on the size of the field.

Seton alumni hockey May 25
PLATTSBURGH -- All MAI, St. John's and Seton Catholic alumni hockey players are invited to participate in the Second Annual Seton Cup hockey game to be played at noon May 25 at the Lake City Stars Arena. Teams will be divided by odd and even class years.
This year's event is open to any former hockey players or coaches including club years prior to the formal organization of high school hockey. The contest will coincide with the MAI/Seton Alumni Weekend to benefit Seton Catholic High School.

U-6, U-8 soccer programs set
PLATTSBURGH -- The Plattsburgh F.C. soccer club has set its U-6 and U-8 development program schedules with both programs to run Tuesdays, starting May 13. The U-6 program will run from 5:15-6:15 p.m. for seven weeks while the U-8 program will run from 5:15-6:30 p.m. for eight weeks. New players are welcome.

B'town volleyball academy set
BEEKMANTOWN -- The Third-Annual Beekmantown Booster Club Volleyball Academy will run for two weeks in July and will be limited to a total of 60 athletes. The deadline for registration is June 15. Week 1 will be July 14-18 and Week 2, from July 21-25.
The academy is intended for female athletes entering the junior varsity (grades 9-10) or varsity level (grades 11-12 and incoming collegiate freshman) next season. M & M Diner wins AuSable title
AUSABLE FORKS -- The M & M Diner defeated Rondeau Construction 16-14 in the championship roll-off at Riverside Lanes to win the AuSable Club League for the third consecutive year.
Steve Niles led the winners with a 242-624 series with Matt Fournier chipping in with a 245-602 and Todd Bombard, a 209. Arnie Stone had a high game of 201 and Marin Kyea, a 187.
Bob Hanley (257-233-671) led Rondeau's. Kevin Parrow checked in with a 246-222-649 and Todd Nelson, a 232-211-626 set. Chuck Bedard had a 216 game.

Summer adult hoops forming
PLATTSBURGH -- City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department is accepting teams for its adult summer basketball leagues -- Open Men, Open Women and Over 30 Men.
League seasons will run for eight consecutive weeks, followed by the playoffs. All games will be played at the City Gym complex with the over 30 league playing Monday nights, beginning June 16. The women's league will meet Tuesdays, starting June 17, and the open men, Thursdays, beginning June 19.
Entry fee for the open men's league is $750 and for the women's and over 30 leagues, $650. Teams must pay at least half of the entry fee at registration and the balance by the second game. Checks or money orders only will be accepted.

Happy Pike Derby May 24-25
CHAZY -- The 23rd-Annual Happy Pike Memorial Day Weekend Tournament, offering cash prizes for the top 10 fish caught during the derby, will be held May 24-25.
The derby will start at sunrise Saturday with the final first-day weigh-in at 8 p.m. at The Weathercock. It will resume Sunday at sunrise with final weigh-in at 3 p.m. at Chazy Recreation Park.
All fish must be taken from Lake Champlain. Anglers can enter only one fish per day. Registration fee is $20 for both days; $10 for both days for anglers under 16 years or over 65.

FUNdaMENTAL hoop camp set
SARANAC -- The Saranac Booster Club will again host the FUNdaMENTAL Basketball Camp at Saranac High School. The camp is open to students entering grades 4-12 in the fall.
Boys weeks will be June 30-July 4 and July 21-25. Coaches will include Mike Castine, Ryan Loucy, Andrew Castine, Jim Manchester, Gary Castine, and Brad Lavalley. Girls weeks will be July 7-11 and July 28-Aug. 1. Coaches will be Katie Castine, Chad Keysor, Andrew Castine, Mike Castine, and Gary Castine.
The camps will run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. with gym doors open at 8:15. The price for new campers is $120 for one week and $220 for two weeks. The price for 2007 campers will be $100 for one week and $200 for two weeks.
Forms may be picked up from the coaches, Finney Sports, or by calling Gary Castine, at 298-5536. All campers will receive a ball, camp shirt, and an evaluation at the end of the week.
City soccer sign-up under way
PLATTSBURGH -- The City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department is accepting applications for its spring outdoor youth soccer program. League play for all four divisions will begin Monday, May 28, with games Monday and Wednesday at 5:15 p.m.
All divisions are coed. The age groups are: U-5 (Aug. 1, 2002-July 31, 2004); U-8 (Aug. 1, 1999-July 31, 2002); U-10 (Aug. 1, 1997-July 31, 1999) and U-12 (Aug. 1, 1995-July 31, 1997).
