PLATTSBURGH -- Three Champlain Valley Baseball League teams opened the 2008 season with doubleheader sweeps last weekend and will be looking to build on their success at home today.
The defending champion Plattsburgh Cardinals and the Lyon Mountain Miners recorded lopsided wins with the C.R. Tunes Mudhens also taking two.
Pitcher of the Week
Tom Neale, Cardinals
Neale, following up on his MVP honors of last season, struck out nine, walked one and tossed a five-inning no-hitter in the Cardinals' 13-1 season-opening win over the Royals.
Player of the Week
Kyle Rock, Padres
Rock rapped out six hits on the day, including a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning of the second game, to help the Padres gain a split with the Expos.
