Keysor finishes career in big way

SARATOGA SPRINGS Jordan Keysor capped his sterling career at Skidmore College by pitching three straight complete games to earn Liberty League Pitcher of the Week honors.

Keysor defeated Vassar College, 1-0, dropped a 2-0 loss to regular-season champion Union College and then beat regular-season runner-up RPI, 7-0.

The former limited RPI, which, at the time, was leading the league with a .316 batting averagem, two hits and lowered his season earned-run average to 2.36.

For his career, Keysor finished with 12 wins and 6 saves. He had 164 strikeouts in 190.1 innings. His teams won two Liberty League championships and earned two trips to the NCAA tournament.


Tennis association banquet May 19

PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Tennis Association will hold its annual banquet on Sunday, May 19 at The Barracks. Happy hour will be from 6-7 p.m. with dinner at 7 followed by the annual meeting and awards presentations.

Step Fathers intramural softball champs

PLATTSBURGH — Step Fathers beat the Cincinnati Bow Ties 26-25 to win this year’s championship in the Plattsburgh State Intramural Softball League. Dan Clark and Brandon Tabasko both homered for a Step Fathers squad that rallied from 10-run deficits twice en route to the title and a perfect 10-0 season record. The winning team included Austin Bicskei, Brandon Cross, Cale Crowley, Kassady Cerny, Raul Hernandez, Eric Gissendanner, Alex Pierce, Brittany Hinkle, Erich Schur, Mark Spada, Jason Leewe, Mack Kilkeary, Kevin Kilkeary, Abby Mell and Sara Wells.


Stick-puck, public skating sessions set

PLATTSBURGH — Can-Am North Sports Centre will be open for stick-n-puck sessions Friday, from 6-7:30 p.m., and Sunday, from 3:45-5:15 p.m.

There will be public skating Sunday, from 2:30-3:45 p.m.


City of Plattsburgh Fun Run Series starts Monday

PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department will host a Fun Run Series on Mondays — May 13, 20, (No run on the 27th for Memorial Day), June 3, June 10.

The races will begin behind the City of Plattsburgh Gym Complex at 52 US Oval, on the Terry Gordon Memorial bike path. Registration will begin at 4:45pm inside the City Gym next to the basketball court.

The runs are for youth ages 4-14 and their parents, six and under will be running a ¼ mile distance, ages 7-10 will be running a ½ mile distance, and ages 11-14 will be running a mile distance and parents are also invited to run the mile.

All the events are free and there will be a warm-up stretching and running tips for participants. Awards will be handed out during our final fun run.

PYH meeting slated for Wednesday

PLATTSBURGH — The next Plattsburgh Youth Hockey (PYH) board meeting will be Wednesday, May 8, at Primelink, 99 Kansas Avenue, starting at 7 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.


Chazy Youth Hockey meeting Thursday

CHAZY — Chazy Youth Hockey will hold its monthly meeting Thursday, May 9 at 7 p.m. at Scotts Memorial Rink in Chazy.


Cards’ Burns on All-SUNYAC Second Team

CORTLAND — On the heels of his most productive season as a collegian, senior pitcher Brian Burns earned a spot on the All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Second Team.

The Ellenville product headlined the Plattsburgh State pitching staff and distinguished himself as one of the top arms in the entire league. After receiving just two starts in his first three years as a member of the squad, Burns quickly emerged as the number-one option for the Cardinals by leading the squad in appearances (11) and starts (nine).

In a team-leading 66.2 innings of work, Burns produced a 6-3 record and was tied for second-most wins among his SUNYAC pitching peers. His sterling earned run average of 2.03 was the second-lowest in the league and the right-hander surrendered just seven extra-base hits to the opposition.

He was successful in sitting down 43 batters via the strikeout and worked five complete games – a high among league pitchers. Burns also boasted an opponent batting average of just .220 – the third-lowest figure in the conference.

The Plattsburgh State baseball team wrapped up its 2013 campaign on April 30 with an 8-0 victory against SUNY Canton in which Burns earned a complete nine-inning victory. The Cardinals put together a record of 14-23 on the year.


Malone softball league to begin Monday

MALONE — The Malone AMVETS Gentlemens Slow Pitch Softball League will start the 2013 season on Monday, May 13, after a week’s delay due to work being done on the field; There are 12 teams in the league this season.

North Country Golf Club sets 2 tourneys

ROUSES POINT — The North Country Golf Club will host the Mini Players Championship on Sunday, at 1 p.m. All players are eligible for the stroke-play event with prizes for top 3 in each flight. For more information, call the golf shop, at 297-2582.

The North Country Shootout will be held May 27, beginning at 10 a.m. All players are eligible, there will be two mens flights and two womans flights. All players will play nine holes.

The players then break for lunch, the players will be repaired according to score, then tee off for the last 9 holes, lowest gross score will win each flight, cost for members is $20 cost for non members is $40 cart included. to sign up please call golf shop.


Roy Bristol shoots hole-in-one

PORT HENRY — Roy Bristol of Moriah got a hole-in-one May 8 in the Wednesday Night Men’s League at Moriah Country Club. He used a 9 iron to ace the par-3, 137-yard third hole.

Witnesses were Bob Tur, Chip Perry and Tom Marcil.


Castle, LaFave win Love My Park 5K Trail Run

POINT AU ROCHE —The Friends of Point au Roche State Park hosted the 5k Trail run in conjunction with NY State Love My Park Day on May 4. Rooney Castle, from Charlotte, Vt., was the overall winner with a time of 19:22, followed by Jason Amoriell ,19:55, and Rory Carroll 22:24.

Darci LaFave, from Lake Placid, was the overall female winner in a time of 23:40 followed by Victoria Duprey, 26:43, and Alexa Sorrell, 27:25.
