Saranac Central Booster Club meeting April 7

SARANAC — The Saranac Central Booster Club is holding a meeting on Monday, April 7 at 7 p.m. in the large group instruction room at Saranac High School. New members are welcome to attend.

Chazy Flyers holding spaghetti dinner, bottle drive

CHAZY — The New York State Hockey champion 19U Chazy Flyers are preparing for the national tournament.

The team will be hosting a spaghetti dinner on March 29 at the Weathercock in Chazy from 12-6:30 p.m. The cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children, with a meal that includes a salad, full plate of spaghetti, bread and dessert.

The Flyers are also doing a bottle drive at the Chazy Redemption Center this Saturday.

Rifle League results

PLATTSBURGH— The Plattsburgh Rod & Gun Club’s Rough Riders rifle team took first place this week for the third consecutive week of the VT Winter Postal League. The team fired a 1,578, with top scores from Peter Visconti (396), who was named to the league All Star Team for week 9, and Norbert Yakey (394).

The top junior shooter was Andrew Visconti (391), who was named to the Junior All Star Team for week 9, along with Amy Visconti, who fired off her personal best score (343).

North Country SPCA holding bowling tournament

MINEVILLE — The North Country SPCA is holding a 9-pin bowling tournament on Saturday, April 26 at the VFW lanes in Mineville.

The tournament will be divided into two different shifts at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The tournament will consist of four person teams competing in three games of 9-pin bowling and the cost is $20 per player.

Prizes will be included, along with a Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle. For more information or to register, contact Jill Shpur at 873-5000.

Cardinals’ lacrosse game rescheduled 

POTSDAM — The nonconference game between the Plattsburgh State men’s lacrosse team and Clarkson University scheduled for 4 p.m. has been rescheduled for April 18 at 7 p.m.

The Cardinals’ are set to begin SUNYAC league play this Saturday at 1 p.m. at SUNY Geneseo.

Plattsburgh State baseball series moved

CORTLAND — The baseball series between Plattsburgh State and SUNY Cortland scheduled for this Friday and Saturday has been rescheduled to Saturday and Sunday due to poor weather conditions.

The Cardinals and Red Dragons will play a doubleheader on Saturday at noon followed by a single nine-inning contest at noon on Sunday.

Sapp named All-American Nordic skier

BEEKMANTOWN — During the first week of March the best junior Nordic skiers in the country gathered in Stowe, Vt. for the 2014 USSA Junior National Championships.

Everett Sapp, a freshman at Beekmantown High School and member of the New York State Educational Foundation, earned All-American status by placing fifth in the U16 classic sprint race. Sapp also finished 16th in the U16 5K classic race. Sapps’ fifth-place finish was the highest finish by a Mid-Atlantic skier this year and he became one of only a few Mid-Atlantic skiers to ever place in the top five at the Junior Nationals.

Ten regions of the country were represented in the Junior Nationals, with each region having a series of qualifying races to select their respective teams. The competitors ranged from age 14-19.

Sapps’ older sister, Maile, who is a freshman at Harvard University and member of Harvard’s NCAA ski team, also competed. She qualified ninth in the U20 classic sprint race and placed 21st in the U20 5K classic race.

‘Learn to Lax’ scheduled for March 28

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Lacrosse Club will be holding a free “Learn to Lax” clinic at the Crete Center on March 28 at 6:15 p.m.

The clinic is open for players in K-9th grade and it is a great opportunity for first time or returning players to learn about the sport of lacrosse. The clinic will have players from the Plattsburgh State men’s lacrosse team working and giving pointers to the participants. Equipment will be available for use.
