Cards’ Fox SUNYAC Rookie of the Week
CORTLAND — Dillan Fox of the Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team has been named State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Rookie of the Week, for the week ending Feb. 24.
Fox opened the scoring just 27 seconds into the second period, netting his ninth of the year off a deflection in front of the net to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. The Hummelstown, Pa. native added an assist early in the third on a power-play goal that put Plattsburgh State up by a score of 3-1. Fox has tallied multiple points in a game on six occasions this semester and this week’s honor marks his second weekly award of the year.
The Cardinals will travel to Oswego on Saturday for the SUNYAC Championship game at 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Wednesday at 10 a.m. through the Campus Center Box Office.
Oswego announces hockey ticket sales
OSWEGO — Tickets for the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship game between Plattsburgh State and Oswego State will be available to the general public on Wednesday, Feb. 27. The final game is Saturday, March 2 beginning at 7 p.m.
Ticket prices is $8 for adults and free for SUNY students with a valid ID.
The Oswego Campus Center Box Office hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Wednesday, and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday through Friday. They can be reached at, (315) 312-3073.
Online tickets may also be purchased at tickets.oswego.edu beginning Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 10 a.m.
PSU lists ECAC Women’s West slate
PLATTSBURGH — The Stafford Ice Arena will serve as the host site for the 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West Women’s Hockey Championships this weekend, with semifinal action beginning Saturday afternoon.
The top-seeded Cardinals will host Neumann on Saturday at 4 p.m. while second-seed Elmira will play Utica in the other semifinal matchup at 7 p.m. The ECAC West Champion will e crowned on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Ticket prices are per day and are $5 for adults and $3 for college students with a valid ID. The Plattsburgh State athletic department will be providing free tickets to the first 300 students each day who present a current Plattsburgh State student ID. All tickets will be available beginning at 2:30p.m on Saturday and at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Filed House Box Office.
No Stick-n-Puck, Public Skating at AC North
PLATTSBURGH — Due to the full hockey schedule and tournament play, the Ameri-can North Sports Center will not have Stick-n-Puck or Public Skating this week. For more information on next weeks schedule, check out the AC North website at www.ameri-cannorthsportscenter.com on Monday, March 4.
Missing Children’s hoop tourney March 7-10
AUSABLE FORKS — The Missing Children’s Tournament will be held on March 7-10. The tournament, sponsored by the AuSable Forks Youth Boosters, the Jay/Black Brook Youth Commission, and Holy Name School, will kick of at 6 p.m. at Holy Name School.
Play will continue Friday night at 6 p.m. at the Town of Jay Community Center, then again Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. The final game will be played at 11 a.m. at Holy Name School.
The tournament is dedicated to four-year-old AuSable Forks resident Luke Garcia, who has Congenital Mitral Stenosis, a defect of the mitral valve of the heart. All the proceeds will be going to the Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Rod, Gun Club to host NRA Rifle Match
PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Rod and Gun Club will host a NRA 4-P and Prone Rifle Match Saturday March 2, at its indoor rifle range. Competitors and visitors are invited to stop by and see the facilities. Equipment will be available for loan.

Frenyea Fishing Derby slated for March 9
CHATEAUGAY — The Harry Frenyea Memorial Horsepull Fishing Derby will be held Saturday, March 9, at either or both Chateaugay Lake and Chazy Lake. Entry fee is $20 and registration and weigh-in will be at Reggie Merill’s boat house on Young’s Rd, Merrill NY.

Chazy Youth Hockey teams advance in state play
CHAZY — The Chazy Flyers Peewee Major, Bantam Major, and Girls 19U teams have all advanced in their respective State Championship tournaments.
The Peewee Majors went 4-1-1 in Norfolk-Norwood and outscored their opponents 40-6, to clinch their spot in the State Championships being held in Amherst on March 8-10.
The Bantam Majors (39-10-2) went 5-0 in Tupper Lake and outscored their opponents 40-5 to capture the Sectional title. The Bantam Major team will join the Peewee Major team the same weekend in Amherst.
The defending State Champions, the Chazy Lady Flyers 19U team will host the State Championship Tournament at Scotts’ Memorial Rink in Chazy March 8-10.
Cardinals recognized on All-Academic team
NEW ORLEANS — The Plattsburgh State women’s cross country, with a 3.26 grade-point average, has been recognized as a U.S Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Cross Country Team. It was announced by the league office on Thursday, February 22.
In all, 197 Division 3 women’s cross country teams received USTFCCA Women’s Cross Country All-Academic Team honors. In addition to Plattsburgh State, five other SUNYAC institutions received the award.
ADK Algonquin Chapter lists outings
PLATTSBURGH — On Match 6, the Algonquin Chapter will meet for their Wednesday Walk about Town. The walk will be led by Lynn Valenti, and anyone who would like to join may meet on the steps outside of City Hall at 3 p.m.
The same day, the Algonquin Chapter will also be holding their last Guided Tour until May, at the New Land Trust, 236 Plumadore Road in Saranac. The tour will first meet at the Club House at 10 p.m. and will be about two hours long. Depending on the weather conditions, the tour can either be ski, snowshoe, or hike. On Thursday March 7, the club will hold a cross country ski outing to Lower AuSable Lake in Keene Valley. If you are interested in attending, call club leader, Anne Bailey at 563-5754.
On Sunday, March 10, Valenti will lead her yearly trip to the Adirondack Loj. There will be afternoon activities such as, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and hiking, depending on the weather conditions. Dinner will be served in the evening.
