A-C North sets weekly schedule

PLATTSBURGH — The Ameri-Can North Sports Center has finalized its weekly schedule.

Stick-n-puck is today from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. and Thursday 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

A public skating session will occur today from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. today and noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Winterfest 2014 Jan. 31 to Feb. 2

WEST PLATTSBURGH — Planning for Winterfest 2014 at the American Legion Post 1619 is in full swing.

The family-friendly bash is set for Jan. 31, Feb. 1 and Feb. 2, featuring many outdoor events, including fireworks, open skating, sliding, curling competition and broomball, softball in the snow, horse and wagon rides and the famous $1 menu.

All proceeds from the weekend go to the Veterans Assistance Fund locally.

The Winterfest committee will meet Thursday at 6 p.m. at Post 1619. New volunteers are welcome.

Six swimmers place at Upper Valley Aquatic Center

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. — The Lake Champlain Waves Swim Team sent 23 swimmers to the annual Upper Valley Aquatic Center Swim Meet held in White River Junction, Vt., December 6 through 8.

The Waves were represented by Andie Abdallah, Olivia Barnett, Sydney Barnett, Stella Boolukos-Brinker, Emily Conners, Madeline Dame, Mikayla Fountain, Sydney Hampston, Brooke Kelley, Avery Kuhn, Alexandrea LaValley, Cameron Matthews, Brady McCarty, Allison McCormick, Emily McCormick, Emily McLane, Julia Mulligan, Alison Silver, Meghan Sorrell, Kent Vaccaro, Bailey VanArman, Tristen VanArman and Patrick (Joseph) Vicencio.

Abdallah, Boolukos-Brinker, Kelley, Allison McCormick and Emily McCormick placed inside the top 10 for the girls’ and VanArman in the boys’ event. VanArman placed first in two events — the breaststroke and freestyle.

The Lake Champlain Waves is a competitive swim team sanctioned by USA Swimming.

Adirondack Disc Golf Association hosts Ice Bowl

CADYVILLE — For the second year, the Adirondack Disc Golf Association will be hosting the Disc Golf Ice Bowl at the Cadyville Disc Golf Course Jan. 25.

Registration in the park building opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 10 a.m. The entry fee is $20 and at least five cans of food for the JCEO Food Shelf. Participants receive a commemorative Ice Bowl 2014 disc.

All players are welcome regardless of ability. Everyone will have a chance to win a prize. There will also be closest-to-the-pin contests for prizes with the proceeds going to the JCEO.

Last year, 23 local Disc Golfers braved temperatures in the mid 20s and trudged through 18 inches of snow to play 18 holes of disc golf and collect 240lbs of food and $100 for a local food shelf.

The non-profit Adirondack Disc Golf Association organizes recreational play all year long at Northern Adirondack courses, including winter bag-tag league.

PSU basketball skills clinic Jan. 13

PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Youth Bureau, Town of Plattsburgh Recreation Department and Plattsburgh State women’s basketball team will host a free basketball skills clinic and competition at Memorial Hall Gymnasium Jan. 13.

The event is free and open to boys and girls of all ages. Prizes will be awarded for top finishers.

Registration will begin at 4:45 p.m. with the skills clinic starting at 5 p.m. and competitions starting at 6 p.m.
