Shamrocks, Flyers rebound with victories Thursday
AMHERST — The Vermont Shamrocks U16 hockey team was back in action Thursday, defeating Amherst 3-2.
Vermont pulled out the victory thanks to late goals in the third period. Amy LoTemplio had a big assist on the tying goal for the Shamrocks.
The Chazy Flyers U19 team also played Thursday night. Chazy won 7-0 against Naperville, Ill.
The Flyers received two goals apiece from Kallie Villemaire, Jess Huber and Emily Raville. Maura Mulligan tallied a goal as well.
PSU baseball series at Oneonta altered
ONEONTA — The three-game SUNY Athletic Conference baseball series between Plattsburgh State and Oneonta has been altered.
The Red Dragons and Cardinals will play one nine-inning game Saturday at 3 p.m. The series will conclude with a doubleheader, which is scheduled to begin Sunday at noon.
Softball games postponed due to field conditions
PLATTSBURGH — Unplayable field conditions forced the Plattsburgh State softball team to postpone a pair of doubleheaders scheduled for this weekend. The Cardinals were originally slated to host Potsdam Friday at 3 p.m. followed by two games Sunday against Union at noon. Both meetings have been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.
Track & field meet pushed to Sunday
ROCHESTER — The start date of the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational track and field meet has been pushed back to Sunday. A contingent of Plattsburgh State student-athletes will compete in the meet, which was originally scheduled for Saturday at Fauver Stadium.
The change in date was due to weather conditions. The meet is still scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
Vibram Birdie Bash rescheduled
CADYVILLE — The second annual Vibram Birdie Bash hosted by the Adirondack Disc Golf Association originally slated to be played April 12 at Twin Ponds’ Disc Golf Course in Peru has been changed to 9 a.m. May 17 and moved to the course at Cadyville Recreation Park.
The Vibram Birdie Bash is a fun day of disc golf for all abilities. For $30, each player gets two Vibram discs, a shirt, towel and coaster mini. Participants will play two rounds of Birdie Bash, where only birdies or better are counted. On a par 3, players get two throws. On a par 4, players get three throws. Birdies are worth two points, Aces/Eagles are worth five points, and hitting metal is worth one point. The first round will be played from new red tees being established this year, and the second round will be played from the existing white tees.
The Vibram Birdie Bash is great for both beginners and tournament players as it is competitive but low-key. There are tons of prizes that everyone has a chance to win.
Softball sign-ups to be held April 12, 18
DANNEMORA — The Village of Dannemora Parks and Recreation Commission will be holding baseball and softball signups for boys and girls teams ages 4 to 16 at the Community Center on Emmons Street April 12 from noon to 1 p.m. and April 18 from 6 to 7 p.m. Only registration is available at villageofdannemora.com. Please include a copy of the child’s birth certificate (if you have not provided one for a previous sport). Children can not be added to the roster if a copy is not provided by the sign-up deadline.
Scholar Athlete Award presented to Seton Catholic
PLATTSBURGH — The NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete Award has been presented to the Seton Catholic varsity boys’ and girls’ basketball teams.
Members of the boy’s team are: Cody Quantock, Adam Tedford, Kaden Baugh, Keagen Briggs, Noah Racette, David LaFountain, Nic Favreau, Chris Kustos, and Joe Zalis. Members of the girl’s team are: Maddy Murnane, Paige Spittler, Shannon Egan, Kelli Ryan, Cailene Allen, Olivia Nachbauer, Gretchen Zalis, Samantha Bashaw, Hailey Moore and Phoebe Christopher.
