Plattsburgh took both boys’ doubles matches as well as the last two singles matches to capture a 4-1 victory over Saranac in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference tennis Wednesday.

Josh Ferris and Matt Bracy won No. 1 doubles in straight sets, followed by a win by Tuaan Luu and Nick Nowosielski. Brendan Whalen and Anthony Girard claimed singles victories for Plattsburgh.

Dylan Christopherson earned the Chiefs’ point at No. 1 singles.

“Dylan Christopherson played very solid tennis in his match. He has become a much more confident player this year,” Saranac coach Tim Newell said. “I was pleased with our other matches as we have five first-year players learning the game. I expect them to improve each match.”

On the girls’ side, Plattsburgh’s Kelsey Senecal did not drop a game in the first singles match, and Emilie Kneifel claimed No. 2 singles in three sets. The Hornets also earned a forfeit win in the second doubles match to claim a 3-2 victory.

Saranac made it close by getting a singles win from Emma Newell and a No. 1 doubles victory from Aime Eggleston and Olivia Klooster.

“I thought that Emma Newell, Amie Eggelston and Olivia Klooster did a nice job refocusing after losing the first set in their matches,” Newell said. “They were able to settle down and pull out wins in their matches.

“Emillie Kneifel and Kayla Napper had a very competitive match at No. 2 singles. Kneifel was able to break Napper’s serve in the third set to pull out the victory.”
