There seemed to be a better than average chance Wednesday night’s Northern Soccer League boys’ contest between Beekmantown and Plattsburgh High was headed for overtime.

But Skye Dominy’s goal with just 3:02 remaining in regulation provided the margin of difference in the Eagles’ important 1-0 Division I victory.

The Eagles (6-2) were able to bounce back from Monday’s tough 1-0 setback at Saranac Lake.

“This was a big win for us — a confidence booster,” Beekmantown coach Ryan Loucy said. “This was good for team morale and chemistry.

“Plattsburgh is a very talented team and we always seem to have good games with them here.”

Both Beekmantown and Plattsburgh (6-3) had some scoring chances, but very few high-quality ones.

The Hornets had their best opportunity to take the lead come with just under eight minutes left in regulation when Garrett Frady worked hard to get past a couple of Eagle defenders to find open space in front. But Beekmantown keeper Matt LaClair was up to the task, robbing Frady from point-blank range.

“That was a phenomenal save,” Loucy said.

The Eagles would then apply some pressure of their own and Dominy tallied the game-winning goal after taking a pass from Nick Danussi.

“I got the ball from (Danussi) on the outside, saw an opening, made a little cut and picked a corner,” Dominy said. “It worked out perfectly.”

“It was a good goal — Dominy’s a crafty player,” Loucy said.

Plattsburgh High coach Chris LaRose credited the Eagles with taking the Hornets out of their game.

“We started to run out of gas at the end,” he said. “We started losing our legs.

“We got out of our game a little and we spent too much time trying to stretch the field. But that’s a credit to Beekmantown’s defense. We had won four games in a row and came into the game a hot team.”

LaClair recorded the shutout with six saves and Mike Stetz finished with 10 stops for the Hornets.

Wednesday’s outcome left the Eagles and Saranac Lake as the only Division I teams with two losses at the moment.

“Our guys pushed hard at the end and had the desire to win the loose balls,” Loucy said. “Both teams were getting tired and it looked like it could be an overtime game. But we got a break and took advantage of it.”

“Definitely, it was a big win for us,” Dominy said. “All our players play as a team and everyone who plays for us does their job. It was a pretty evenly-played game and both teams were hustling out there.”
