AUBURN — Steve Carder poured in 29 points and added 14 rebounds Sunday as the North Country Community College men’s basketball team closed out its first semester with a 78-63 victory over Cayuga Community College.

Jared Heden added 14 points for the Saints (10-4, 8-4), while Steven Poulter finished with 13 points and seven rebounds, Ian Henderson, 12 points and five assists, and Michael Boyea, six assists.

North Country, which closed out a busy week away from home, trailed, 32-27, before outscoring the Spartans by a 51-31 margin in the second half.

“It was a good weekend on the road for us — we were inches away from having it be a great weekend if our final shot would have fallen the day before against Delhi,” North Country coach Chad LaDue said.

“But we were able to split four games on the road this week, and it’s always nice to get a win in your last game before the break. I think it’s time for a break.

“The guys will come back, and we’ll see how well we do in the second semester.”

Jared Donalson led Cayuga with 12 points and Dwayne Irving was next with 11.

“Our guys showed their toughness today,” LaDue said. “We were able to handle their press.

“It was again a very good team effort for us.”

“In the second half, we struggled to get stops whether in a zone or man to man. Adam Klock played a great game, but we really didn’t have anyone else step up when needed in the second half.”
