PLATTSBURGH — The Cardinals continues to show their offensive prowess in their rout of New Paltz Saturday.

After recording 80 points Friday night, Plattsburgh (14-4, 9-2 SUNYAC) put up a season-high 52 points in the first half and finished off the Hawk (4-15, 2-10) 84-52 in SUNY Athletic Conference women’s basketball play.

“We ran well, even in the half court we moved the ball well. We were passing up good shots for great shots,” Plattsburgh coach Cheryl Cole said.

The Cardinal offense was flowing, as it finished the half shooting 62.5 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from 3-point range.

“We were pretty hot, but that’s just a result of how well we moved the ball and how well we ran,” Cole said.

With the hefty lead, Cole was able to play her whole roster, which showed promise as all 14 players were able to get on the scoreboard.

“I told them in the locker room, it’s so important and they deserve these minutes, they were the ones that created the 30-point gap,” Cole said. “(I was) real pleased to see them do things that they’ve been doing in practice.”

The Cardinals finished with 35 points off the bench, which was led by Jax Miller, Audrey Hughes, Ayomide Adedapo and Stephanie Linder.

Miller finished with 10 points, knocking down three 3-pointers, while Hughes, Adedapo and Linder all finished with six points apiece.

“Very happy with what happened with our bench. Everyone showed up (Saturday) and did what they needed to do when they got on the floor,” Plattsburgh’s Kathleen Payne said. “I think Audrey did very well (Saturday), but I was overall impressed in how everyone did.”

After coming off a career-high 35 points Friday night, Payne once again led the Cardinals with 17 points, six rebounds and six assists in just 24 minutes of play.

“I felt good but it’s a different game,” Payne said. “New Paltz is more aggressive on defense, when I drove in they collapsed in the middle, so it was more about getting the best shot.”

Kit Small led the Hawks with 23 points, six rebounds, and three steals, while teammate Courtney Irby finished with four points and 11 rebounds.

“I was real happy to have a commanding win,” Cole said. “We got to be able to get the job done and they went in (Saturday) and got the job done. (I’m) real pleased with the effort (Saturday), top to bottom, all 14 players.”
